The Digest 📰

Here are some stories from around the town over the past few days that you might want to know about (that are not crime or politics)

🚧 The roadworks down past Walton Gardens on Chester Road, which seems to have gone on forever (more than 12 months), have finally finished, with all the cones now being removed. This has been a nightmare for people who have been commuting and living up there for ages. (Warrington Guardian)

🏫 St Bridget’s Catholic Primary School has earned praise for supporting disadvantaged pupils, with top results, a letter from Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson, and the best attendance records in England nationally. (Warrington Guardian)

🎶 The Friday Alternative returns to Sankey Street Basement on February 13, bringing back underground nights inspired by The Carlton, Legends, The World, and The Lion, featuring indie, goth, and grunge DJs. (Warrington Guardian)

🍔 When we walked past the McDonald's on Bridge Street, we noticed that it’s closed for refurbishment until the 25th of February. (Warrington Scoop)

📰 I came across this article in The Guardian (not the Warrington Guardian) that is worth a read. It says Warrington is one of the UK’s fastest-growing towns, with wages rising well above the national average. Strong transport links, logistics, tech, and a large nuclear sector have driven growth. Old industries are being replaced by datacentres and new investment. Still, parts of the town face poverty and rising use of food banks. The council’s high debt and slow pace of change leave many residents frustrated, even as progress is underway

Warrington Food & Drink 🍽️

☕️ We mentioned it last week, but a quick reminder that Toast in Latchford is reopening on Saturday, the 31st, and lots of people are excited about it.

🍰 A new honesty box selling cakes called the Nibble Nest has opened in Warrington. You can watch an Instagram video here that explains what to expect.

🍕 Dexter's Dough House has taken over the pizzas at the Odyssey bar on Bold Street. The Pizzas look amazing, please check them out if you are after freshly made pizza and a few drinks.

K-POP Fantasy at the Parr Hall 🎤

KPOP Fantasy comes to town on Friday 20 March 2026, with a 7:30pm start. It’s a live stage show celebrating K-pop through dance, vocals, and big visual moments inspired by music, TV, and film.

This is an independent tribute production and isn’t linked to any original artists. Tickets are on sale now for KPOP Fantasy.

The Future of Warrington Walking Day

We read on Warrington Worldwide that the future of Warrington Walking Day is still unclear.

Warrington Borough Council says no decision has been made yet, as spending is under review. The event, which dates back to the 1830s, incurs major road-closure, security, and traffic-management costs each year.

With big budget pressures ahead, the council is weighing up how it can be funded. Walking Day means a lot to many families across town. Should it be protected, changed, or paused? We’re keen to hear what you think.

🚗 Did you know theres 2 electric cars that you can hire and unlock through an app in Warrington? We recorded a video of one of them here, and we hope to test-drive it next week so we can tell you more about it. As it's out of the way, we feel like people still don’t know it exists.

🗝️ I recorded a history video all about Oliver Cromwell that you might like. It caused plenty of debate in the comments.

👻 Have you ever noticed this ghost sign on this building near Warrington Baths? Can you work out what it says?
