What Warrington’s been talking about this week
Plus: We visit Warrington's newest bar, and Warrington Wordle
Good morning, Warrington. Mike here. This is The Warrington Scoop.
Today’s newsletter is quite food and drink heavy… but I guess it’s the perfect time of the year for that?
In today’s Scoop:
We visit Warrington’s newest bar… (padel, golf, darts, and a pint?) 🍻
Warrington Scoop’s favourite restaurants (chosen by you) 🍔
Warrington Wordle 🧠
From the Papers 📰
Some Warrington history you probably don’t notice 🏨
Grab your favourite brew, and let's start. ☕️
P.S. We have had a lot of new newsletter sign-ups and social media followers (welcome). If you are after a guide to what’s on this weekend, you can find a web copy of Monday’s email here.

From The Papers 📰
Here are some positive stories from around the town over the past few days.
🗑️ Young Environmental Champion leads Sankey Valley clean-up (Warrington Worldwide)
🏅 Young entrepreneur turns Warrington business into award-winning 'overnight success' (Warrington Guardian)

Warrington’s newest bar 🍺
We were invited down to the soft launch of the new sports bar at T1 Sports Village, near Fiddlers Ferry Power Station, to take a look around and tell you what it’s like.
It’s a great place to watch the sport. They have 98-inch TVs, which are massive and placed so you can see the screen from pretty much anywhere you sit. There’s a good drinks menu too, including a good range of beers and even a 0% Heineken on draft for anyone driving.
There is even a separate darts room off to the side.
If you’ve been to T1 before, you’ll know it’s not just about the driving range. The padel courts have been really popular this year, and this bar feels like the missing piece. Come summer, it’s easy to picture people finishing a game of padel and heading straight here for a pint. It’s got that written all over it.

Warrington Scoop’s Favourite Restaurants
When you sign up for the Scoop newsletter, you get sent a welcome email asking you what your favourite restaurant is. It’s always interesting to hear what people reply with.
I thought it was worth compiling these to share with you, especially if you are new to the area. These are in no particular order, but here they are for 2025!

Warrington Shout Outs 📣
🗑️ Don’t forget there are changes to the bin collections over the Christmas period with some bins not being collected for a while. Check out all the times and changes here.
🚌 The £2 bus fare is rising from the 1st of January, but it will still be under the £3 national cap. I know this isn’t something positive, but it’s something you might need to know!
Theres a canal work party on the Sankey Canal this Saturday. If you can spare a few hours, they would love your help.
🤗 Christmas isn’t easy for everyone, and the Oddfellows know that. That’s why they’re running free online events over Christmas and New Year to help people stay connected. You don’t need to be a member to join in. There are relaxed chats, games, talks, a Christmas Day quiz, and even a New Year’s Eve party, all hosted on Zoom. You can see what’s on and how to take part at oddfellows.co.uk/online-events.

Warrington Wordle 🧠
We are approaching the end of the year, and if I’ve learnt something this year… It’s that you love Warrington Wordle. This is still the most clicked thing EVERY week in the newsletter. If you can think of any other games for 2026 that might work, please let me know.
Today, we are staying on the theme of Warrington road names!

Warrington locals miss these details 🏫
Sometimes we forget to look at the details when we are rushing in for food. If you can’t view the video above, the building in question is the old technical school on Palmyra Square in the town centre, built around 1900. It’s just above the staircase as you walk in.
Then, just under each window, it has the names of famous scientists and thinkers from over the years in the brickwork. I only noticed these myself recently, which is why I made the video.
What other places around Warrington would make great history videos? Let me know by replying to this email.
