Good morning, Warrington. Mike here. This is The Warrington Scoop. We make every email we write fun and easy to read within a few minutes, and only talk about the good stuff going on around town. Whatever you are up to this weekend, we hope you have a good one!

In today’s Scoop:

  • The Scoop new podcast is out, with a history feature about the Warrington Transporter Bridge 🌉

  • Warrington shout outs 📣

  • News from the papers (positive stuff only) 📰

  • Warrington Wordle 🧠

Grab your favourite brew, and let's start.

P.S. If you are new here, you can find a web copy of Monday’s email with our what’s on guide inside.

If you’re looking for something to do then foot golf course at T1 has just reopened this year. It’s just £6 per person and a good way to get the kids (and grown-ups) outside for a bit.

They also have:

  • Two brand new padel courts

  • An indoor football pitch

  • A newly opened carp fishing lake

  • A cafe serving food all day

If you pop down, tell them you saw it in The Warrington Scoop.

Check them out on their website, Instagram and Facebook.

This month's episode of the Warrington Scoop podcast starts with a look into the history of one of Warrington's most iconic landmarks, the Transporter Bridge.

But…. we also talk about Warrington’s Luke Littler vs Mo Farah debate!

After that, Charles and I hit the streets to find out where people love to go for a day out in Warrington, share our own picks, and get some answers from the public.

You can listen on YouTube below, or click here for links to find it on your favourite podcasting app.

Here are some positive stories from around the town over the past few days.

🌸 It's No Mow May, and the Warrington Nature Conservation Forum is asking local gardeners to put the mower away for the month and let wildflowers bloom. The campaign helps bees, butterflies, and pollinators at a critical time of year, and there are even rare bee orchids and northern marsh orchids growing in Birchwood and Stockton Heath. 🎨 The St Rocco's Colour Run is back at Walton Hall and Gardens this Sunday, and Mix 56 will be broadcasting live from the event. Hundreds of runners, walkers and families will be taking part in the feel-good fundraiser in support of St Rocco's Hospice. (Warrington Guardian)

🐾 A brand new cafe has just opened at Cheshire Dogs Home on Knutsford Road near Grappenhall, and it is called the Sit and Stay Cafe. Great coffee, tasty treats, dog friendly, and every purchase goes directly towards the care of the dogs. Open Wednesday to Sunday from 10am to 4pm and anyone is welcome to pop in. This week, I noticed a post on social media by Les, who runs Tell Tales books. She said she had not sold a book in the past week, so I wondered if the Scoop could help her out, so I popped down to make a video so people could find out about her wonderful shop.

Les is really passionate about getting children to read, which is why she started the shop. It’s got loads of amazing books, and you can also have a brew and a piece of cake there as well. If you head down, please let her know you heard about her in the Scoop 😀

She’s based over in Padgate, and you can check out the video below.

🏉 The other week, we went along to watch Warrington Wolves vs Wigan Warriors and put together a video to show just how good the atmosphere is. Rugby is a great day/night out, and we are so lucky to have it on our doorstep.

🤣 There are 2 funny memes that have been posted as well…… because who doesn’t love a meme? Here’s one about Cockhedge roundabout (which I know you all love), and one about going to the wrong Warrington train station.

🎭 A Warrington theatre group is making history this month. Centenary Theatre Company, who've been going for 125 years (they started life as the Crosfield soap factory's drama club back in 1901), are the first amateur group in the North West to stage Disney's Frozen the Musical. Tuesday 12th to Saturday 16th May at The Brindley, Runcorn. Tickets £20 plus booking fee, with a buy 15 get one free deal for groups.

👩‍🍳 We received an email from Frankie, who lives in Lymm, letting us know she’s appearing on MasterChef this month! Her show airs on BBC Two on Thursday, 14th May at 8 pm, or you can catch it early on iPlayer from Monday, 11th. Give her a follow @feastingwithfrankie

🔧 Lovely gesture from Bumblebee Plumbing and Heating this week, who were contacted by Warrington Food Bank, which needed a water heater installed with no budget. Bumblebee turned up, fitted a brand new one, and didn't charge a penny.

🚌 Lymm Historic Transport Day is coming to town on Saturday 28th June and they are looking for volunteers to help out on the day. Give a couple of hours of your time and you get two free tickets in return.

🏆 TEDxWarrington have just been named runner-up in the Community Business category at the FSB Small Business Growth Awards North West. Led by Kirsty James since 2022, TEDxWarrington has brought the community together for some brilliant events and it is great to see that work being recognised.

🧁 We mentioned the Mamars Sconpetition on Monday and the results are in! The winning flavours were Manchego and Chorizo with chilli jam, and Orange Zest and Chocolate with marmalade. The most popular entry from readers was Raspberry and White Chocolate so Mamars will be making those too.

🍖 Cappadocia Restaurant on Mersey Street in Warrington are running a brilliant offer this month. Two mains and two drinks for just £20, with authentic Mediterranean food cooked over charcoal. Available Monday to Thursday from 5pm to 10pm throughout May.
