Good morning, Warrington. Mike here. This is The Warrington Scoop.
What did you get up to at the weekend? I went for a run down the canal, which reminded me what a lovely part of the country we live in, and it was nice to see so many people out and about. Then…. I reminded my wife that Rituals had opened in town, so we headed into the Golden Square to have a nosey and we both agreed it’s a great addition to the town.
Grab your favourite brew, and let's start. ☕

🚧 Here is a quick update on the progress of the road works that are taking place on Sankey Street, which has divided opinions across social media.
📸 This amazing picture was sent to us by a reader, which we felt really captured Autumn right now. I am not sure of the exact location. Do you know where it is?
🤣 They are building a new junction on Cockhedge roundabout (only joking), but can you imagine if they built one like this for your flying Tesla car that meant you could fly right over it?

🍺 The Lord Rodney on Winwick Road has reopened after its refurb and it’s looking really good with tons of improvements. We didn’t realise it was opening so fast, but it looks like they have done a great job with it all. Did you get chance to pop in over the weekend?
💐 As mentioned before, Rituals, the home fragrance and body care brand, has opened a store in town this weekend. Have you been in yet? Hit reply and tell me what you thought.
🎄 The Gemini Musical Theatre Company's Christmas Gala Concert at Parr Hall on Sunday 20th December at 7:30pm is sold out downstairs, but there are still seats left in the balcony. With a full orchestra, they'll be playing carols like The Coventry Carol and Jingle Bells, with songs from Oklahoma!
🛝 We noticed an update on the Slidie Sliderson socials that they are now opening on the 9th of November, and are now taking bookings. I spoke to the manager a while back at a networking event and it’s going to be amazing.
Warrington History 📜
We are bringing back the history feature again, as a few of you emailed me to ask where they have been. Here is one for you today, which fits in nicely with remembrance day at the weekend.
The cenotaph at Bridge Foot, where the town gathers on Sunday, wasn't Warrington's first war memorial. A temporary one went up for the Peace Day celebrations in August 1919. The council set up a committee in 1921, but arguments over where it should go and money problems held things up until plans were finally approved in May 1924.
The stone obelisk, designed by borough surveyor Andrew Kerr, was unveiled in November 1925. The wall behind it carries the names of the 1,161 Warrington men who died in the First World War, and later plaques remember 435 local servicemen and 22 civilians from the Second World War. It's now Grade II listed.
Sponsored by Pip the personal trainer
Ever walked into the gym, looked at the weights area and wondered where on earth to begin?
You're definitely not the only one.
I'm Pip, a women's strength coach, and I help women feel stronger, learn their way around the gym and build confidence with weights.
You don't need to know every exercise, lift heavy or have everything figured out before you start.
That's what coaching is for.
Whether you'd prefer a structured programme to follow yourself or personalised support along the way, there's a starting point for you.
Confidence isn't a requirement. It's something we build together.
