Good morning, Warrington. Mike here. This is The Warrington Scoop.

I tried to resist writing an intro that didn’t talk about the weather… but being British, it's impossible not to. But yeah, it's hot, isn’t it?

Grab your favourite brew (maybe an iced coffee), and let's start.

P.S. If you recently signed up, here is a web copy of Monday’s email with a big what’s on guide for the week.

I’m really pleased to share that I’m now welcoming clients in a new space at EA Fitness in Warrington.

My work focuses on helping to release stored tension in the body that can place ongoing strain on the nervous system. When the body is holding this kind of stress, it can contribute to feelings such as anxiety, persistent headaches or migraines, emotional overwhelm, physical discomfort, and long-term stress patterns.

Through gentle, hands-on holistic therapy, we work with the body to encourage release, regulation, and a greater sense of ease.

Pop up fine dining in Warrington 🍽

You may have seen on the socials that last week (check out the video here), we went to a pop-up fine-dining experience at Toast in Latchford, run by Nigel from Enigma Dining. This is the second of his events we've been to, and both have been really good.

I know we have some amazing restaurants in Warrington, but this was a bit different, and as the Scoop, we try to let you know about things you might not otherwise know. I'm not sure where else you'd get a 7-course tasting menu in Warrington.

Nigel comes out before each course and explains each dish to you, which really adds to the experience in my opinion. He tries to source as much as possible locally, which I think is a nice touch.

I've popped a few pictures below of some of the courses. My favourite was the main course, Ox Cheek and carrots done 3 different ways, but all the courses were really good.

If you're after somewhere different for a date night or a special occasion, I'd definitely recommend them. Nigel can also come to your house, as he offers private dining in the comfort of your own home (I’m not sure who washes the dishes, though, haha).

Here are links to their Facebook, Instagram, and website, where you can find out when their next events are.

A team of fundraisers are taking on a 24 to 26 hour walk from Blackpool Tower to the King's Head in Warrington, carrying a bed the entire way, to raise funds for St Rocco's Hospice and get defibrillators for three local rugby clubs. Donate via their JustGiving page and share far and wide. There's also a charity night at the King's Head with tickets available in the pub.

🎉 Just a reminder that Warrington Youth Zone are throwing open their doors this Saturday 11th July from 12pm to 6pm for their Big Summer Birthday Party. It's completely free and there's loads on including sports, climbing, gaming, creative arts, cooking, live entertainment and the launch of their brand new Makers Zone and Darts Zone.

🛍 Hancock & Wood's has got in touch to let us know that their closing-down sale is still going, and by the looks of the queues this week, plenty of you have already been down. They dropped prices again this Wednesday, with final reductions coming next Wednesday. The sale runs until all the stock is gone, likely in early August.

🎪 French circus company CirkVOST are bringing their jaw-dropping show Pigments to Bank Park as part of Warrington Arts Festival, with two free performances on Friday 24th July at 5pm and Saturday 25th July at 9:30pm. Twelve acrobats will spend almost an hour performing trapeze stunts, rope work and aerial acrobatics on a massive metal structure 15 metres above the ground. No tickets required, just turn up.

🚧 If you use Winwick Road or Mill Lane, this one's worth knowing about. Two major road closures are running at the same time this summer, with Mill Lane in Houghton Green fully closed from 20th July to 2nd September for a new roundabout, and Green Lane and Golborne Road in Winwick closed from 20th July to 20th August for gas mains work. The overlap between 4th and 20th August is likely to cause significant congestion in the area.

Big shout-out to Warrington's No Wrong Door men's mental health peer support network. Last week alone, 250 men reached out for support, including 5 who attended for the very first time, showing just how strong this community really is.

🎨 Local artist Louise Williamson is hosting a solo exhibition at Stockton Heath Gallery from 8th July to 8th August. Head down on Saturday 18th July from 11am to 7pm for a chance to meet the artist in person.

Last week, we popped down to see Owen, who runs McCoy’s sports bar in the Hive on Sankey Street, and made a little promo video for him. If you are after somewhere to watch the footy this weekend, then pop in and give this place a go. It’s a bar run by a local lad, not a chain place, which is nice.

Would you mow a lawn for a council tax discount?

This is random, but last week we stayed in a hotel in Spain that, if you agreed not to have your room cleaned that day, they offered you a free breakfast. We were only there for 2 nights, so we took up the offer of a free breakfast on both days, and I think most other guests did as well, which must save them a fortune in housekeeping costs.

It got us thinking….. what if the local council (not just Warrington), offered 1 month free council tax, or a % off in exchange for you committing to doing X amount of hours helping do stuff around the community, such as mowing lawns, litter picks, or stuff that they just don’t have the resources to do anymore? I know we pay a lot of council tax, and I know there are a lot of people out there who do a lot in their area, so this was just us purely thinking out loud.

I will share the results next week…..
