Positive Warrington news you’ll like today

Plus: New podcast episode and Warrington Wordle

IN PARTNERSHIP WITH

Good morning, Warrington. Mike here. This is The Warrington Scoop.

We’ve got all the latest town news, events, and food wrapped up in just a few minutes. Faster than you can find a free parking space in Golden Square car park on a Saturday (which can really take forever).

In today’s Scoop:

  • Did you know what this building was that you’ve walked past before? 🤔

  • Warrington food and drink news (lots of it….. as it’s that kinda season) 🍽️

  • Warrington shoutouts (a new section you might like) 😃

  • Warrington Wordle 🧠

Grab your favourite brew, and let's start. ☕️

P.S. If you are after the full events guide you can find that in Monday’s email here.

A quick shout-out to this week’s sponsor, Function Fix, the physio team based at T1 Golf, 1 Widnes Road, Warrington WA5 2UW.

I actually went to see them myself a while back after picking up an injury, and honestly, they were brilliant.

You can find them inside T1 Golf on Widnes Road (near Fiddlers Ferry).

Check out their website.

Warrington Scoop Podcast episode 6 is out now 🎤

This week, Charles sits down with Andrea Morley to chat about Warrington’s BID (business improvement district). You’ve probably seen the name around town, but this episode breaks down what the BID does, how it helps local businesses, and why it matters to the town centre.

You can listen to the episode here on all your favourite podcasting apps.

The Digest 📰

Shout out to one of the Scoop readers who emailed me to say that these stories haven’t been positive enough lately, and I can’t agree more. I will aim to make these neutral to positive where possible (sometimes it’s hard though).

Warrington food and drink news 🍽️

As it’s Christmas, I thought I would add a few more food and drink snippets than usual.

☕️ Could this fancy hot chocolate from Growing Fields 28 be the best one in Warrington?

🍺 The Maltins have recently opened their revamped beer garden, which looks great

🥨 The Terrace Bar (above San Lorenzo) is serving up these amazing-looking giant pretzels and massive pigs in blankets over the Christmas period.

🍸️ Jardin is offering unlimited drinks for 90 minutes (when bought with a meal) for £15

☕️ Cafe Alma has launched a massive range of festive drinks that look amazing.

🍽️ This Friday is the grand opening of Cappadocia Restaurant on Mersey Street.

New escape rooms open inside Tenpin Bowling

Three new escape rooms have opened at Tinpin called Houdinis (near junction 9 of the M62, just off Winwick Road). These could be worth trying if you are after something different to do around Christmas.

Don’t forget, we also have another escape room company in Warrington, ClueHQ, just under the arches next to Central Station. I have done all of these rooms myself over the years, so it’s good to know theres some new ones to try.

Warrington Shout Outs 📣

This is a new section of the newsletter I am trying out. I get a lot of requests, but sometimes I can’t dedicate an entire section to it…… so here are some local business shout-outs!

📷️ Warrington Photographic Society is after new members. They meet fortnightly at St John's Church on Wilderspool Causeway.

🚲️ Warrington Cycle Hub is offering 50% off in their Christmas sale

👨‍🎤The Shed in Moore is after carol singers for its event on the 13th of December.

🛍️ Penketh Christmas Fayre is after stall holders for the 16th of December.

🎄 There is a Christmas Tree festival this weekend at St Mary’s Church in Lymm.

History - Did you know what this building was that you’ve walked past before?

Most of you have probably walked past the Boultings Building on Winwick Street and never really paid much attention to it. However, when you look at it now, you will notice that it used to be a church….. well, it was until 1909. After that, it became offices for the tannery next door, then a nightclub in the 1980s, and now it’s offices.

Theres a video here I made on Instagram (over 50,000 views combined over Facebook and Instagram) if you want something a bit more visual.

Warrington Wordle 🧠

Wordle is back today after not appearing last week.

Special mention to Sue, who said she missed Wordle last week as it’s the first thing she does on a Friday morning when she gets into work with her coffee.

Today’s is a road/street name. I feel I have to give you that clue. It’s a tough one!

Thanks 👍️
