Good morning, Warrington. Mike here. This is The Warrington Scoop. The little corner of the internet that focuses on the good stuff going on around the town that we call home.

Grab your favourite brew, and let's start.

P.S. New here? Check out Monday’s email here, which has a full events guide for the week (the event guide will be massively improved next week)

It’s not too late to enrol at Warrington & Vale Royal College!

Every year, Warrington's leading provider of technical education helps students achieve their educational and career ambitions, and this year is no different, with hundreds of school leavers already securing their place and looking forward to an exciting new chapter this September.

Whether students are interested in creative industries, construction, health & social care, sport, military & emergency services, performing arts, or many other pathways, there are opportunities still available to help them achieve their goals.

Prospective students are encouraged to act quickly, as many courses are close to reaching capacity. To view courses with places for September 2026, visit wvr.ac.uk/lastchance

🛍 What shops would you like to see in Warrington? Because… we can all dream, right? Well, we put together a post listing some shops that we don’t currently have in the town centre, and you guys left a lot of comments letting us know which ones you liked and didn’t like.

🎯 Following on from the above, we made a list of bars we would like to see open in Warrington (the competitive socialising edition). We don’t really have that many places like these in town.

🙏 We were out filming Bloom, which is a wellness day with plenty of stuff (talks, treatments, and stalls etc) taking place throughout the day, which is tomorrow at the Old School in Fairfield Street (just off Manchester Road, right near town). Watch this video where Claire tells you all about the day.

🧠 We just missed this one as the first one was last night, but it's worth knowing about for later in the month. Warrington Market has launched a brand new Speed Quiz every 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month at 7pm, run by Sphinx Events. Entry is just £1 per person and it's all done via phone so no pen and paper required.

🌸 Lovely to see that Flowers by Susan Jane is back in Golden Square near the O2 shop! Sue had a brief spell working from home but clearly missed being out in the community, and judging by the comments on her Facebook post, plenty of people had missed her too. Go and say hello next time you're passing.

🚶 Walking Mums are celebrating their two year anniversary this Sunday with a walk from Walton Hall and Gardens to Bellefields Brew, meeting at 12.30pm. The forecast is looking lovely so it should be a great afternoon out. All are welcome whether it's your first walk or you've been there from the beginning.

🕺 The last time we featured Throwback Masters it went down really well, so we thought you'd want to know they're back! Over 25s day clubbing at A La Turka in Stockton Heath on Saturday 7th November from 4pm to 9pm. The best 80s, 90s and 00s tunes, home before midnight.

🏉 The Warrington Wolves Foundation is hosting a special evening looking back at the final game at Wilderspool, the must-win clash with Wakefield that pulled the club back from the brink and set up everything that followed. Club legends will be there to talk through the pressure, the leadership and the moments that made it matter. It's on Tuesday 15th September at The Kings Head, 7pm, and tickets are a tenner.

🍸 There is a new bar opening in Stockton Heath. This is where the Slug and Lettuce used to be a while back and since then we think it’s been another 2 bars? Let’s hope Square bar does well. Please follow them on social to check out when they are opening.

🍺 The Ferry Tavern pub have announced their latest real ale festival, which they have on a few times a year. This one is on Friday the 18th and Saturday the 19th of September.

🍝 IKEA Warrington is running an all-you-can-eat meatball buffet on Thursday 24th September, and it's a bargain. It's a fiver for adult IKEA Family members and just £1 for kids, with unlimited Swedish meatballs, mash or chips, peas, cream sauce and lingonberry jam (veggie and falafel optiowns too). (Warrington Guardian)

🎢 Gulliver's World has welcomed around 1,000 students over the past year through its Work Experience Workshops, giving young people a hands-on introduction to careers in leisure and hospitality (Warrington Guardian)

House of the Week 🏠

£300,000

A cracking find this week on St Marys Road in Penketh. It's a Charlie Halton built semi, which if you know Penketh, you'll know is always a good sign. Right on the doorstep of both primary and secondary schools, making it an ideal family home.

  • 3 bedrooms, Charlie Halton built semi-detached

  • Large bright lounge with bay window

  • Generous dining room overlooking the garden

  • Bespoke kitchen with integrated appliances

  • Large enclosed rear garden with decked and patio areas

  • Driveway parking, not overlooked

  • No chain

Great value for the area and one that won't hang around. View it on Rightmove.

Plenty of guesses from you all last week, with many of you getting it under 3 attempts with Mary and Kev, the local Wordle champs doing well as usual 😃

Today’s is a nice easy 4 letter one for you. No clues today with it being such a small word.
