Good morning, Warrington. Mike here. This is The Warrington Scoop.
It’s a bit of a quiet week this week in Warrington, with not as much on as usual. Maybe that’s because the schools start back this week…. and autumn starts tomorrow (where has this year gone). Are you happy that it’s autumn? I think it’s probably my favourite season.
Grab your favourite brew, and let's start. ☕

The BIG EV Summer Series at Big Motoring World Warrington is well underway.
Why not head down tomorrow for their traditional manufacturer EV event, your chance to test drive electric cars from the long-established, household names that have been building motors for generations.
Across the series, they'll showcase affordable EVs, family-friendly models, long-range commuters, great options for first-time EV drivers and more.

📻 Ever wondered what's on top of the pink Eye building? One of our readers sent a video in, and it's well worth a watch. Ringway Manchester takes a look at the historic Fairclough Mill in Warrington and its FM and DAB radio transmitters up top, plus the vintage 19th-century railway signal box and hand-operated crossing gates next door.

💛 Hope 100 Warrington are putting on a 5k or 10k walk for suicide prevention at Victoria Park on Saturday 5th September, setting off at 11am. Take your pick of the shorter loop or the full 10k, and come together for a cause that touches so many people across town. Everyone's welcome, whatever the pace, so bring your family, friends and even the dog and get yourselves down there.
🚧 Heads-up for anyone who uses the M6. A £27m job to replace the ageing bridge joints on the Thelwall Viaduct at Lymm starts on 1 September, with a full contraflow and a temporary 40mph limit coming in from 12 October.
🏆 Cheshire's Mix 56 popped down to Lymm Heritage Centre this week, where Smithy caught up with 1976 Speedway World Champion Peter Collins MBE. His brand new free exhibition opens tomorrow, 29th August, and runs until the end of the year in the heart of Lymm Village. Have a watch of Smithy's chat with Peter.
🎨 Stockton Heath Gallery's new exhibition, Of Land & Sea, runs from 3rd to 26th September. It brings together four local artists, Ali Kippax, Jon Clayton, Andrew McFadden and David Kereszteny Lewis, whose work explores landscape, coast and the play between land, water, weather and light.
🦅 VultureFest 26 is back at Gauntlet Birds of Prey Centre in Knutsford on Saturday 5th September, 4:30pm till 11pm. It's an outdoor evening of live music from six independent acts, with food vendors, a bar and family fun throughout. All profits go to Gauntlet Conservation Trust to help protect critically endangered vultures in Africa.

This week we went out for a random midweek meal to somewhere we have never been to before, San Marino, which is on Old Liverpool Road just 2 minutes from the Pink Eye Roundabout.
They had 50% off pizza and pasta (we both went for pizza), and the place was absolutely packed by the time we left. It’s been a place that Scoop reader recommended in the past and it didn’t disappoint.

🎪 A Creamfields weekend nearly ruined turned good when a group of festival-goers had their trailer split open on the motorway, scattering tents and bags everywhere. Ex-Warrington Wolves winger Jamie Boyd and his courier firm Today Team took a late-night call from a worried dad and had the kit delivered to the festival within two hours. (Warrington Worldwide)
🏉 Warrington Wolves have locked in a home play-off game after holding on to beat Hull FC 16-14. Tries from Leon Hayes, Matty Ashton and Josh Thewlis built a 16-2 lead, and though Hull hit back late, the Wolves held on for a 19th win of the season (Warrington Worldwide)
🎸 What started in 2022 as Andy Richardson's solo project during recovery from a skateboarding injury has grown into Severe Girls, a Warrington four-piece with a sound between Weezer and The Buzzcocks. They've just dropped new single Sunset Mindset and played their first headline show at Manchester's Rose & Monkey (Warrington Worldwide)
