Good morning, Warrington. Mike here. This is The Warrington Scoop. The local newsletter that feels like having a quick chat with a friend over a brew.

In today’s Scoop:

  • We visit a ladies’ clothing boutique 👗

  • News from the papers (only the good stuff of course) 🥳

  • Warrington shout-outs 📣

  • Warrington food and drink news 🍽️

  • Unlock Runcorn is this weekend 🚢

  • Warrington Wordle 🧠

Grab your favourite brew, and let's start. ☕️

P.S. We send 2 emails a week (Monday and Friday), always check your promotions tab on your email, as sometimes they might end up there by mistake 😀 Here is a link to a web copy of Monday’s what’s on guide in case you are new and didn’t get that email.

Here are some positive stories from around the town over the past few days.

☕️ A well-known coffee chain has closed in Birchwood, with the Starbucks at Oakwood Gate shutting its doors and signage now removed. Plans are in place for a new Pret A Manger drive-thru to open on 5th May, which would be the first location of its kind in Warrington if confirmed. (Warrington Guardian)

🎤 Cheshire’s Mix 56 is celebrating six years on air on Monday 23rd March. The station started during lockdown as Lymm Radio and has grown into a daily local favourite, with the anniversary marking years of music, local voices and community support. (Warrington Guardian)

💄 Warrington sculptor Mike Hill has won an Oscar for Best Make-up and Hair Styling for his work on Frankenstein, where he created the monster. The 56-year-old accepted the award in Los Angeles alongside his team, having spent years working in film after starting out making models as a child in Warrington. (BBC News)

We popped in to chat to Helen, who runs Dolly Daydream (just near Caffe Curuso). She runs an amazing little boutique and has been in town for years. If you are off on your holiday soon, call in and check out what she has.

💪 A much-loved locally owned gym has sadly closed, and the owner, Andy, is selling off all his equipment. Theres’s a video of it here, and a link to all the auction of the equipment here.

🍰 The Celebration Cake Kitchen (cake honesty shed), based in Grappenhall, posted a picture of their new menu featuring all the lovely cakes available this weekend.

☕️ Quaker Coffee, based at Padgate Train Station, has now been open for 6 months. Definitely worth checking out if you are in the area, as we have heard lots of good stuff about it.

🥧 Tomlins Bakery posted about all the special pies they have this weekend. They have a lamb mint and gravy pie and a full monty breakfast pie…. and a few others to check out. This is what the queue can be like, as they really are that good.

🪡 A Warrington mathematician turned artist, Angela Gould, will showcase her Royal Academy-recognised stitched artwork at Warrington Museum & Art Gallery from 21st March to 31st May. The piece, created during lockdown, took around 800 hours and 500,000 stitches, with the exhibition free to visit.

💪 DT Health and Nutrition has opened up in the Hive. Darren, who runs it, really knows his stuff (we popped in to see him). You can follow him here on Facebook.

🖼️ The Warrington Primary Art Network returns to Golden Square, with a special exhibition running 21st March to 21st April in The Mall. Featuring artwork from schools across the town.

🏃 Tom Dore from Warrington is taking on 7 marathons in 7 days this May to raise money for the Neonatal Ward that saved his daughter’s life. If you can support or share, it would mean a lot.

👶 The Babystore officially opens tomorrow at their new location on Junction 9 retail park.

Runcorn is marking 250 years of the Bridgewater Canal this Saturday 21st March at Top Locks, with a big spring launch event led by Unlock Runcorn. The day celebrates the town’s waterways while also looking ahead, including the launch of a new community boat, Fraeda.
