Good morning, Warrington. Mike here. This is The Warrington Scoop.

I got chatting to someone in a coffee shop this week who grew up in Warrington but moved away for 20 years for work and had just moved back. I asked him what made him come back. He said his kids were grown up, he had the choice of anywhere, and this is where he wanted to be. Sometimes you don't realise what you've got until you leave.

Grab your favourite brew, and let's start.

If you’re looking for something to do, then the foot golf course at T1 has just reopened this year. It’s just £6 per person and a good way to get the kids (and grown-ups) outside for a bit.

They also have:

  • Two padel courts

  • An indoor football pitch

  • A newly opened carp fishing lake

  • A cafe serving food all day

If you pop down, tell them you saw it in The Warrington Scoop.

Check them out on their website, Instagram and Facebook.

Here are some positive stories from around the town over the past few days.

🍽️ More traders have been announced for the Warrington Food and Drink Festival, which returns to Bank Park and the Town Hall grounds on 16th and 17th May. Over 70 traders are expected, including To Pie For, Vintage Coffee, Phat Mac, and Salford Distillery (Warrington Guardian)

🏆 A lovely result from the Warrington Guardian Inspiration Awards this week. NHS nurse Colleen Spencer, who has worked for the health service for over 20 years while also caring for her husband at home, won the Health Hero Award. She also runs a club at a local church, giving older residents a warm meal and some company. (Warrington Guardian)

🧵 Warrington's Liz Cargill is celebrating a year of her sewing business, Lilibet Sews, which offers one-to-one sewing lessons in people's homes. From complete beginners to those making garments from scratch, Liz also creates beautiful memory cushions made from loved ones' clothing. (Warrington Guardian)

Here are some things we came across that we thought you might like to know about.

🍺 The Chapel House Pub in Great Sankey is reopening on Thursday, 30th of April. It recently closed for a short time, but it’s good news that it’s reopening so quickly.

🌷 This is just outside of Warrington…. but you can go and pick your own tulips over at Primrose Hill Nurseries, and the weather has been perfect for this lately.

🐶 Birchwood High School has 2 new therapy dogs, Doris and Scout, who have been settling into the school's new routines.

🚢 The Sankey Canal Restoration Society did some great work at the weekend, clearing out the old lock at Winwick.

🏀 Theres a new ladies’ netball group starting in Warrington. It’s indoor, perfect for beginners, even if you haven’t played since school! It’s fun and social too.

🏥 The Lymphatic Therapy & Rehabilitation Clinic by Just Lymphatic is launching on Thursday, 30th April at 147 Mersey Street, WA1 2BN, and will be the first specialist lymphatic therapy clinic in Warrington.
