Your first Warrington update of the year
Stuff to do and stuff to know
Good morning, Warrington. Mike here. This is The Warrington Scoop.
It’s a slow start around town (as January always is), but there are still a handful of things worth knowing about if you fancy getting out.
In today’s Scoop:
Our new podcast episode is out 🎤
What’s on guide for this week (not as much as usual) 🗓️
House of the week 🏠️
We visited a Panto at the Parr Hall 🎭️
Activity Angels January calendar 🗓️
Grab your favourite brew, and let's start. ☕️
P.S. Welcome to all the new readers who joined over Christmas (there were plenty of you). Think of the Scoop as your local feel-good newspaper/newsletter delivered twice a week, just talking about the good stuff happening around town.

Warrington Scoop Podcast Episode 7 (Start Running in 2026)🎤
In this podcast, Charles and I look back at some of the most talked about things that happened in 2025, as well as looking at what Warrington Scoop readers want to happen in 2026 across the town.
We also interview Bryan Forth about the Couch to 5k program that Warrington Road Runners runs. It’s a fascinating interview and a great way to start the year if you are looking to get into running or just generally be more active.
You can listen to the episode by clicking the embedded YouTube video above, or theres a link here which takes you directly to your favourite podcast apps.
To tie in with the above podcast, here is a complete list of the running clubs in Warrington that you might be interested in joining to kickstart your fitness goals for 2026

From The Papers 📰
Here are some positive stories from around the town over the past few days.
🎨 Touching art tribute made to mark 1000-biker ride for eight-year-old Orford boy (Warrington Guardian)
🛍️ 8 new shops to open in Golden Square in the new year after bumper festive sales (Warrington Guardian)
🎸 Popular Warrington band sign record deal after 25 years together (Warrington Guardian)

We watched Beauty and the Beast at the Parr Hall Panto 🎭️

A few of the Scoop team went to see Beauty and the Beast at Parr Hall last night, and it’s genuinely very good.
It’s funny and well put together. Kids enjoy it, and adults do too. Anne Hegerty is excellent as the Fairy Rose. Jake Quickenden brings plenty of energy to the role of Gaston. Daniel Dean gets big laughs as Pee Wee Potts.
The panto is on again next Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, with daytime and evening shows. If you want an easy, feel-good night out in Warrington, this is a good choice. Tickets are available here.
Theres a video here on our Instagram as well.

House of the Week 🏠️
This week’s pick is Cross Cottage on Pepper Street in Appleton Thorn, and it’s full of charm.
Dating back to around 1730, this Grade II listed thatched cottage feels like something out of a postcard. Inside, you’ll find exposed beams, a feature fireplace and vaulted ceilings. It has a flexible layout with two bedrooms, including a large main bedroom upstairs with countryside views.
It’s a rare find in a sought-after village location and it’s on the market for £450,000. Perfect for anyone who wants character, history and a quieter pace of life just outside the town centre.

Activity Angels January Calendar
If you’re looking for things to do and ways to meet new people, it’s worth checking out the Activity Angels calendar.
They focus on reducing loneliness and social isolation by bringing people together through simple, positive activities.
