More than Men (Help, Inspire, Grow)

🧠 More Than Men is a grassroots group supporting local blokes with their mental health, wellbeing, and day-to-day struggles. They run weekly meet-ups, wellbeing walks, and offer hands-on help when things get tough. It’s all about looking out for each other and making sure no one feels alone.

Here’s their June calendar if you want to go along or share it with someone who might need it.

We all know Warrington isn’t perfect, and there’s probably a lot we would want to change, but we do try to focus on the positive stuff here at The Scoop.

The Digest 📰 

Here is a quick round-up of what’s been happening around town (no crime or politics).

🏥 Warrington and Halton Hospital is getting a £3.1 million boost through the Estates Safety Fund to upgrade lifts, roofs, and ventilation. Part of a wider NHS effort to improve safety and cut emissions.

🚲 Kids at Bright Horizons Warrington swapped four wheels for two during Cycle to Nursery Day, promoting sustainability and early eco-awareness as part of their Eco-Schools commitment.

🏅 Warrington’s Tim Muttock was awarded silver in the Our Health Heroes Awards for his work at Bridgewater Community Healthcare, where he's helped digitise staff records and champion neurodiversity in the NHS.

🎯 More than 100 kids packed into the Luke Littler Darts Academy to cheer on The Nuke in the Premier League final, they even filmed him a good luck message. The academy only opened in April, but already has around 100 members.

Warrington Food and Drink 🍽️ 

🥧 Have you tried To Pie For? It's a fantastic pie shop that features quite a lot at the local markets and has a shop in Fearnhead. I love their Madras pie, but all the ones I have tried have been amazing.

🍟 A new chippy’s landed in Penketh and it’s already causing a stir. Marina’s Fish Bar opened in May and scored a 4/5 from The Chippy Tour’s Stephen Peel. Fish, chips, curry, and yes, a side of nostalgia. Read the review.

☕️ A new coffee shop is opening in The Hive. CKB Coffee will be opening today and will make an exciting new addition to The Hive. Kyle, the owner, makes some of the best coffee I’ve ever had.

🐟️ Grill on The Square, one of your favourite restaurants in Warrington, has a £7 fish and chip deal on Fridays from 12pm - 3pm. I went the other week. It’s amazing for the price and it’s cheaper than most chippies.

Join our lovely artist Emily as she guides you through every step to create your own unique artwork to take home.

🎾 Rediscover the Joys of Tennis, 10am
Starring Tuesday 3rd June at 10am Rediscover the Joys of tennis for just £10 for a 6 week course.

🧶 SOS Save Our Stitches With Sara - Craft Barn, 2pm
Sara will be in the Craft Barn for the afternoon. On hand to help out with any knitting and crochet queries you might have.

⛪️ St Oswalds Church Fit For Mission, 8pm
The FfM initiative aims to grow the church and arrest the decline we have all seen over recent years.

🐶 Puppy Play - Bents Garden Centre, 5pm
The aim of this session is to give young puppies an opportunity to meet and play in a safe and supervised environment.

🧘 Yoga Flow with Teresa - Appleton Parish Hall, 6:30pm
A yoga flow class incorporating a sequence of poses lead by the breath, suitable for all.

Thursday

Children’s Storytime - Bents Garden Centre, 9:30am
Every Thursday morning from 9.30am in the Family Area, join our lovely storyteller for a special morning for the little ones.

😄 Teen Anxiety Workshop - 4:30pm
4-week workshop for teens (12–17) to manage anxiety & build confidence using practical tools and gentle hypnotherapy support.

📖 Silent Book Club - Mamars Bakery, 5pm
Everyone is invited to enjoy the simple pleasure of reading in good company.

🎷 Jazz Night - Hungamaa, 7pm
Featuring guest artists on a rotation each month.

🙋 Botanist Bingo - The Botanist, 7pm
Eyes down, listen up! Bingo is BACK every first THURSDAY of the month from 7PM and it's music to our ears.

🙏 Mindful Meditation - New Media Centre, 7pm
These weekly evening sessions are a quiet space to land, slow down, and gently come back to yourself.
