Here’s a random Warrington fact for you. Warrington was home to the oldest horse ever, called Old Billy. He was born in Woolston in 1760 and lived until the age of 62. His head is actually in Warrington museum, as well as loads more history about him.

The large unit that was formerly Gravity has been empty for a while now, but we noticed that solicitors have been instructed, which usually means something is on the way. We don't know what's coming yet, but it's good to see movement on such a prominent unit.

🛍️ After how popular our "shops we'd like to see in Warrington" post was, we made a part two featuring more of your choices, and it got people talking all over again. Turns out what Warrington wants more than anything is an M&S Foodhall!

⛸ Golden Square is bringing a brand new ice rink to Old Market Square from 27th November 2026 until 4th January 2027, in the old fish market square right in the middle of town. Alongside the rink there’ll be the Christmas Lights Switch-On, a visit from Father Christmas and festive choir performances throughout December.

🤣 The Wigan Joker keeps popping up on our timeline and he makes us laugh every time. He's bringing his comedy to Deadeyes Cocktail Bar on Saturday 17th October, with Rusty B supporting and a DJ and karaoke after. Adults only, so expect strong language and plenty of audience interaction.

🍎 Apple Day is back at New Routes Community Orchard & Gardens, tucked at the back of Victoria Park in Latchford and run by the charity MacIntyre. It's a lovely relaxed one: wander the orchard and gardens, catch some live music, watch apple pressing and traditional blacksmithing, and browse the artisan stalls. There's a yoga and mini sound bath with Mija if you fancy a calm moment among the trees, plus plenty for the kids too. It's on Saturday 12th September, 11am to 3pm, just £3 for adults and children free.

🍽️ Warrington Restaurant Week is coming back! Running from Monday 12th to Sunday 18th October, this year's theme is Our Town, Our Table, with exclusive menus and food and drink experiences across the town. Costello's Bar, Blossom and Dorado Lounge are already confirmed, with the full lineup dropping on 23rd September.

🍳 More good news for the town centre. Casa Oliva, a new breakfast, brunch and tapas place, is coming soon to the Old Fish Market Square, taking over the old White Lace Bakery unit. It's great to see another unit filling up, especially so soon after Bob and Bert's opened its doors.

🍗 We always like to give some personal recommendations to places we visit and last Sunday me and Mrs Scoop went to the Pickering Arms in Thelwall, which is a pub we have never been to. I can’t really fault anything about it, and it finally felt cold enough to have a Sunday roast, which was one of the best I’ve had in a long time.

P.S. Tomorrow I am out with one of my Hong Kong friends who is taking me on a bit of a tour of some of the Hong Kong eateries we have in the town centre, so expect to see some of these mentioned in upcoming newsletters 😀

🎤 Brilliant news for Great Sankey. Aaren James, 25 and a former Penketh High School pupil, made it through to the next round of ITV's The Voice after his blind audition performance wowed both Kelly Rowland and Tom Jones. (Warrington Guardian)

🏔️ Great Sankey's Josh Bradley, 32, is climbing Mount Kilimanjaro later this month to raise money for Alzheimer's Society in honour of his grandad Bob, who was diagnosed with the disease in 2019. (Warrington Guardian)
