Good morning, Warrington. Mike here. This is The Warrington Scoop. The local newsletter that’s like a noticeboard but less boring and hopefully more useful.

Did you get up to much at the weekend? The weather was up and down, wasn’t it? We went out for a dog walk to somewhere new for us (can you guess where this is?)

In today’s Scoop:

  • Almost 60 things to do in our events guide

  • House of the week

  • What should go on the land where Mr. Smiths used to be?

Grab your favourite brew, and let's start.

Learn to bake Sourdough & Yeasted Bread in a hands-on, practical class where you will make, shape, and bake Sourdough and a White Cob whilst picking up all the hints and tips to keep baking fresh, tasty bread.

Next Classes: 17th of May and 28th of June
£75pp

Both dates are already 50% booked, so don't hang around.

Here are some stories that are not crime or politics from around the town over the past few days.

🏉 The Wolves are through to the Challenge Cup semi-finals after a brilliant 24-10 win over Leigh last night. They came from behind, survived ten minutes with twelve men, and Ben Currie scored twice late on to seal it. Wembley is now just one game away. (Warrington Worldwide)

🌸 Six private gardens around Warrington are opening to the public this spring and summer as part of the National Garden Scheme, including Laskey Farm in Thelwall, gardens in Lymm, and even HMP Thorn Cross. Tickets start from £5. (Warrington Guardian)

🎮 Warrington Youth Zone is getting a massive revamp ahead of its fourth birthday in July, and it sounds brilliant. Plans include a brand new gaming zone, a maker space with 3D printers and laser cutters, a darts zone inspired by Luke Littler, an outdoor recording studio, and a relaunched podcast and radio studio. Poll - What would you like to see where Mr. Smith’s used to be?

Are you as surprised as me, that nothing has ever been built where Mr. Smith’s nightclub used to be? It has been almost 11 years since it burnt down.

🔒 Volunteers recently uncovered the historic 1757 Winwick Lock that had been completely hidden in undergrowth for years. A brilliant bit of local history rescued by the community.

🐱 A lovely community project from Activity Angels, who have been making scent-bonding rehoming squares which will be donated to help rescue cats and kittens settle into their new homes faster.

🎨 BloomingArt Academy has finally got its heritage artwork plaque installed at Roebuck Plaza in Warrington town center, and it is a really special piece. Designed by local artist Gail Stubbings, it celebrates Warrington's rich history, featuring the Transporter Bridge, the Parish Church, the River Mersey, Joseph Crosfields and Sons, and Old Billy, the longest living horse on record at 62 years old.

House of the Week 🏠

This one caught my eye this week as it’s a beautifully modernised two bedroom detached bungalow on School Lane in Rixton, on at offers in the region of £375,000.

  • Stunning kitchen with granite worktops and integral appliances

  • Log burner in the lounge

  • Lovely morning room off the main bedroom, perfect for a coffee with garden views

  • Detached garage plus a summerhouse in the garden

  • Semi rural location with The Black Swan just down the road

Thanks 👍
