Walks, talks, food and fun this week 🚶♂️🍔🎉
Lymm transport day, heritage walks, coffee deals
Good morning (or afternoon, or maybe evening?), Warrington. Mike here. This is The Warrington Scoop.
How was your weekend? Did you eat and drink too much? Yeah…..thought so, me too! A friend and I went into the town centre on Saturday to work on a podcast covering all things Warrington that will complement this newsletter perfectly. We will tell you more about it soon 😀
Anyway, back to this week. There is a lot going on, and I’ve covered a few future events that will happen over the next few weeks.
Grab your favourite brew, and let's start. ☕️

Lymm Historic Transport Day

Lymm Historic Transport Day is coming up on Sunday 22nd June, and if you’ve never been, it’s well worth a visit. It’s a proper community-run event, with classic cars, old steam engines, vintage boats, and model railways.
There’s always something going on, and it’s not just for the car enthusiasts. Families turn up in their thousands to enjoy live music, local food stalls, LEGO displays, and a great mix of things to see and do around the village. It’s a good excuse to get out for the day, support a local charity, and see Lymm at its best.
If you’ve already been before, you know the drill. If not, maybe this is the year to go and see what it’s all about.
Check out their website for more info.

Daresbury District Heritage Group 🧩

The Daresbury District Heritage Group has shared its programme for 2025–2026. You’re very welcome to come along to any of the talks, walks or displays.
If you’re interested in the area’s history or just like a reason to get out and chat with people, it’s a good way to do both. It’s £12 for the year if you want to join, or you can pay £3 if you’d rather just come to the odd talk. Walks and displays are free for everyone.
You don’t need to know anything in advance. Just turn up and enjoy it.

From The Papers 📰
Here are stories that haven’t involved crime or politics over the past few days.
🚧 Road Resurfacing in Grappenhall & Howley
Starting June 30 in Howley (7pm–1am) and July 7 in Grappenhall (8:30am–5:30pm), several streets will be resurfaced over the coming weeks. Expect temporary closures and changes to one-way routes during the works.
🍸 Former Slug and Lettuce Back on the Market in Stockton Heath
The bar on Grappenhall Road, once home to Slug and Lettuce and more recently The Phoenix Bar and Grill, is up for grabs again. It’s listed with Stonegate Pub Partners, with a forecast turnover of £639k and weekly rent at £634. Could be a big opportunity for the right buyer.
🎯 Littler & Humphries Knocked Out of World Cup of Darts
Warrington’s Luke Littler and teammate Luke Humphries crashed out of the World Cup after an 8–4 defeat to Germany. Missed doubles proved costly as the home crowd roared on Schindler and Pietreczko in Frankfurt. Tough one for the newly crowned MBEs.

Warrington Food and Drink 🍟
If you’ve got the Three+ rewards app, Stitch Station at Sankey is offering a proper treat. You can grab a coffee for £1 as part of the £1 Coffee Network, and there’s a coffee-and-flapjack deal for just £3.50 too. A nice little pit stop if you’re heading past.
CBK Coffee (the latest addition to The Hive shopping centre) has an amazing hot drink and breakfast barm deal on for £4.50. I don’t know anywhere that does such a good deal. We popped in to try it at the weekend (review and video coming soon).

Kids for a Quid at Huddersfield Home Game 🏉

If you've got little rugby fans in the house, there's a great deal for next Saturday’s home game at The Halliwell Jones. Kids can get in for just £1 for Warrington v Huddersfield, with adult tickets in the West Stand only £5. Even better, it’s a double header. Our Reserves play first at 12:30pm before the main match kicks off at 3pm, and one ticket gets you into both.
You can book online or in-store, and 2025 members can bring a friend for a tenner too. A solid way to spend your Saturday.

Sport 🏉
🏉 A tough night for Warrington Wolves as they fell 36–12 to Leeds Rhinos away from home. Wire were outpaced from the start and couldn’t recover, adding more pressure heading into the second half of the season.
