Walking day, and Yoga on the pitch
Plus: Road closures, quizzes and a bike ride
Good morning, Warrington. Mike here. This is The Warrington Scoop. Does anyone else not bother watching the news anymore? It’s all a bit doom and gloom, isn’t it? The Scoop is the opposite, focusing only on the good things happening around town.
If you are new to Warrington (welcome). Today, I’ll be telling you what Warrington Walking Day is all about and things happening around town.
Grab your favourite brew, and let's start. ☕️
P.S. Did you see on our Instagram that we went for a ride on a 1965 Warrington bus?

Today’s Sponsor is you! (Your ad could go here)

Walking Day - What Is It All About? 🤔 🚶

Friday is Warrington Walking Day. If you have recently moved to Warrington, lived here a while….. or even lived here your whole life, you might still not know what Walking Day is. I’ll keep this brief, but here’s essentially what it is.
Walking Day is one of Warrington’s longest-running traditions. It goes all the way back to the 1800s, when local churches began organising a big community walk as a kind of peaceful alternative to the races at Haydock.
The idea was simple. Churches from across Warrington walking together to show unity, faith, and togetherness, and it stuck.
These days, it’s a much-loved annual event. Thousands turn out to line the streets as churches, schools, and community groups walk through town in full procession. It always starts at 10.30am, with the parish church leading the way through the golden gates at the Town Hall.
It’s a proper Warrington tradition. A lot of schools close (which the kids love), and it used to be that the dads ended up in the pubs after walking day.
There is a more detailed explanation here (too long for these emails) if you want to read it.
Road closures 🛑
There are road closures near the town center on Friday with major roads through the centre closed from 7:30am until 1pm. If you want a full breakdown of what roads close when, you can find them here.

Yoga Experience on the Pitch (It’s Free!)

This event is looking popular on Facebook, and I know you, the Scoop readers, love yoga and health-focused events, so I thought you needed to know about it. After all, it's not every day you can go and do yoga inside a stadium, is it?
This takes place on the 29th of June at 10am.
Find out more on their Facebook page here.

From The Papers 📰
Here is a quick round up of some of the local news that isn’t crime or politics that you might want to read.
