Good morning, Warrington. Mike here. This is The Warrington Scoop.

If you're new here, this is where we round up everything worth knowing about our town. Some weeks it's headline news, some weeks it's a bloke setting up a litter picking group or a local business chasing a dream, but if it’s good news we try and cover it 😃

Grab your favourite brew, and let's start.

P.S Over 16,150 locals (that’s 16 full Parr Hall’s) receive this email twice a week. Know someone who would enjoy it? Forward them this email and ask them to subscribe for free.

The BIG EV Summer Series at Big Motoring World Warrington is well underway.

Why not head down tomorrow for their German EV discovery event, giving you the chance to test drive EVs from the leading German manufacturers, including Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen.

Across the series, they’ll showcase affordable EVs, family-friendly models, long-range commuters, great options for first-time EV drivers and more.

🕷 Do you remember when we had a big spiders web in Sankey Valley Park? It used to seem so big….. now we have this smaller one, that isn’t quite as good.

🚲 There’s nothing like a bike ride through Sankey Valley when no one is around.

🥐 We randomly came across this pop up bakery yesterday outside Number 9 in Great Sankey. Hearth and Honey Bakery make amazing cinnamon rolls and we picked up a few for our breakfast. Please give them a follow to find out when their next pop up is.

🚲 As part of VPX, Warrington Cycle Hub are hosting a free Cycle Summer Festival at Victoria Park on Wednesday 19th August from 10am to 4pm. 🌿 17 volunteers from the Sankey Canal Restoration Society put in an incredible 66 hours between them clearing vegetation and logs from the Old Double Lock on the Sankey Canal. A brilliant effort from a group of people who genuinely care about keeping this lovely part of Warrington in great shape.

🎓 Warrington & Vale Royal College is celebrating its best ever results, with a 99% pass rate on Level 3 Extended Diplomas and 96% on T Levels, beating the national average by 3.4 points. 90% of students landed high grades, with leavers heading to university, apprenticeships and jobs with the likes of Jungheinrich. Enrolment opens Thursday 20 August.

🎉 Great news for Stockton Heath. Stockton Heath Festival 2027 is officially going ahead after the community rallied together to secure its future. Save the date: Thursday 1st July to Sunday 4th July 2027.

🌍 There's a new litter picking group up and running in Penketh. Penkethlitterpicks is out keeping the area clear for wildlife, with the motto that every piece of litter cleared is a life saved. Give them a follow and tag them in your own clean-ups to get featured.

🚌 Just a reminder that children aged 5 to 15 can travel free on Warrington's Own Buses and other local bus services until the end of August. No registration needed, just hop on.

⚽ Cromwell Athletic JFC are launching a brand new Vets team competing in the Warrington Vets League and are looking for players aged 35 and over. If you fancy getting back into football, message them on Facebook.

🤝 A warm welcome to Bluevale Recruitment, a new Warrington-based business connecting schools, healthcare providers and employers with quality professionals, with real expertise in supporting Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). 🚲 Warrington's been ranked joint fifth in England for teaching kids to cycle, with 81% of Year 6 pupils trained through the Bikeability programme in 2025/26, well above the national average of 54%. (Warrington Borough Council)

🇫🇷 Lovely reminder that Lymm has friends across the Channel. The village is twinned with Meung-sur-Loire in northern France, and the two have kept the friendship going for years through visits and host families. Around fifty people, English and French, shared a few days together on the latest trip out in May, with a French delegation set to visit for the Lymm Festival in June 2027. (Warrington Guardian)

🎬 Films under the stars are coming to Arley Hall and Gardens. Summer Nights Outdoor Cinema takes over the grounds from Friday 18 to Sunday 20 September, with Dirty Dancing, Sing, a Mamma Mia! singalong party, Pride and Prejudice and Star Wars across the weekend. (Warrington Guardian)
