Good morning, Warrington. Mike here. This is The Warrington Scoop.

Here’s another history snippet for you 😀 Back in 1932, Warrington was home to England's tallest policeman, PC Albert Puffett, who stood at a genuinely astonishing 6ft 9.5in and was a regular sight directing traffic through the town centre (before Bridge Foot was a nightmare 🤣)

Grab your favourite brew, and let's start. ☕

Slidie Sliderson has a date 🛝

Slidie Sliderson, the UK's first wholly owned hybrid slide park, has finally confirmed it opens its doors on Friday 23rd October at Cockhedge Retail Park.

We met the guys behind it the other week at the Warrington Business Conference who told us more about it and yesterday we put the news out on our socials on and the response said it all… you guys are excited!

Inside there's a run of giant dry slides with names like Grounded, El Ploppa, The Vert, The Quad Squad, Side by Slide and Round the Bend, plus two brand new attractions making their Warrington debut, Strike Lab, a football arcade, and Gloww Lab, an AI entertainment studio. There's food and drink on site too, and they're already taking bookings for birthday parties.

Want to be first in line when bookings go live? Head to slidiesliderson.co.uk and get on the list and please give them a follow. Let them know you heard about them on the Scoop.

Quite a few new things this week that you might wanna know about that makes you proud to live in Warrington.

🇮🇹 We were out in town on Sunday, just having a potter about town and having a few drinks when we came across the coolest free cart handing out free tiramisu (YES, FREE) in Palmyra Square. We spoke to the owner, Stev (who also runs pasta classes) and tried out some of the Tiramisu and it was amazing. Please give him a follow on social media, as you can hire out his cart for your events.

🇫🇷 Now over to France…..Happy 5th birthday to Gourmand! café. Julien and Olivia have been serving up a proper taste of France in Warrington for five years now, and they’ve kept going through a tough year with roadworks right on their doorstep. They’re back open for breakfast with their French pastries too, and pre-orders are recommended. Pop in, grab something sweet and wish them a joyeux anniversaire. 🥐

🍼 The team behind Warrington Dads With Prams got in touch and we love what they're doing. It's a free weekly buggy walk for dads and male carers around Warrington, taking in places like Orford Park (this weeks walk), Woolston Park and Sankey Valley. All backgrounds welcome, just blokes getting out the house and having a proper chat with others in the same boat.

🎉 Flow Nova Studios in Warrington are turning one. They're celebrating with a Big Birthday Weekend across Thursday 16th, Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th October, with special class events in the studio. Check their Instagram @flownova.studios to see what's on and grab your place.

🚆 Avanti West Coast is being nationalised. Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander announced the Manchester to London route will come into public ownership in March next year, saying it "hasn't been good enough for far too long." Good news for passengers at Warrington Bank Quay and Crewe, both major stops on the West Coast Main Line. (Cheshire Mix 56)

🌾 Kenyon Hall Farm, run by the same family for over 500 years, has built a new management team after visitor numbers tripled over the past five years, completing a government-funded course to help manage the growth sustainably. (Warrington Worldwide)

Council catch up 📰

Ok, this is a new section for us, as people wanted to be kept up to date on whats happening with the council (without it being too political)

From this week, landlords need full planning permission before turning a family home into an HMO, rather than it just happening automatically. The rule already covered six central wards, and now it's borough-wide.

There's also a new checklist for any application that does come in, covering things like room sizes, bin storage and parking. Got a view on it? The council's taking feedback until 19th October.

Thanks 👍

Thanks for reading The Warrington Scoop today.

If you found this useful, please share it with someone who visits Tomlins Pies every week and is one of the first in the queue.

Catch you on Friday.

Mike
