Here’s a random Warrington fact to start your week, as I know you enjoyed the last few. Did you know the first IKEA in the UK opened right here in Warrington in 1987? So before the rest of the country was buying flat-pack furniture and Swedish meatballs, Warrington got there first.

Town has been absolutely packed this weekend, and it was brilliant to see.

Saturday kicked off with the Wolves taking on Hull KR in the play-offs and coming away with the win which puts us 1 game away from the final at Old Trafford (yes, this year is our year!). Town was chocka with fans before and after the game. Warrington town also won their FA cup game! Then there was also a gig in the town centre under the old fish market which had a great atmosphere.

Sunday we had the Warrington Running Festival, and honestly, it gets better every year. I ran it myself and the atmosphere was something great, complete strangers out cheering on runners they'd never met, all the pubs and food places rammed afterwards, and a real buzz around the whole town.

There's a new coffee and chai house to try in Warrington, with SOMA opening its doors this week inside The Parr's Bank (which is right opposite the bus station). It's serving serving coffee, chai, pastries and brunch, built around the idea of slowing down and gathering over good food and drink.

If you haven’t been inside the Parr's Bank is one of the town's most beautiful old buildings, and SOMA have done a lovely job making the inside feel warm and inviting. Last week we got invited down to try out Hickory’s, which opened in Bold Heath (it’s just outside of Warrington), and it’s a place that got a lot of people excited when we have mentioned it. 💇 A lovely bit of continuity for the town centre. Beyond the Fringe, the salon founded back in 1961, has moved after 65 years on Suez Street to a smart new home in The Hive on Sankey Street. Now run by Lian Rosa, who's worked there for 33 years, it's the only Warrington salon supporting NHS patients with hair loss through conditions like cancer and alopecia. (Warrington Guardian)

🚶 Plans are moving forward for a new walking and cycling route in Burtonwood, linking the Community Centre with the shared-use paths on Clay Lane. It's part of a wider active travel scheme backed by over £10million of levelling-up funding. (Warrington Guardian)

✨ Hobbycraft in Warrington is hosting The Big Bedazzle next week, a run of Dolly Parton-inspired craft workshops on the JunctionNINE retail park. From Monday 21st to Friday 25th September, you can get bedazzling and add a bit of sparkle to jackets, trainers, phone cases and more, with each £6 session raising money for Dolly Parton's Imagination Library.
