Good morning, Warrington. Mike here. This is The Warrington Scoop.

Here’s another little history fact for you to start the week (as I know a lot of you liked Fridays). Back on 13 August 1651, Warrington was the site of the last Royalist victory of the English Civil War, at the Battle of Warrington Bridge, when Scottish troops fighting for Charles II held off the Parliamentarians. There's even a rumour that the dents in the walls of St Elphin's Church were made by cannon fire from the fighting.

FA Cup football comes to town this Saturday, and it's a proper day out for all the family. Warrington Town host South Liverpool at the GXO Stadium (WA4 2RS), 3pm kick-off, with a place in the next round on the line.

A new study called the Property Prosperity Index has ranked Warrington the third best place in the UK for quality of life in 2026, behind only Swindon and Newcastle. It looked at things like crime, green space, life satisfaction, transport links and broadband speed, and Warrington scored well across the board, with locals rating their life satisfaction 7.45 out of 10.

Last week, we popped down to visit the Party Arch, which is a kids soft play centre to show you what’s going on there. They have been open for a few months and are located right next to central station and the bus station, just under the arches.

🎃 Celestial Collectables have had their shop windows given a brilliant Halloween-themed makeover, complete with a Pokémon twist, and whoever did the artwork has done a smashing job.

🍽️ The Blue Bell on Horsemarket Street, one of your pubs and a regular in our welcome email replies, has just launched a brand new food menu. Well worth a look next time you're after a bite in town.

🎨 A big well done to Stockton Heath Gallery, which has just celebrated a whole year open. Over the past twelve months they've brought original art right into the heart of Stockton Heath.

🎥 We came across a cracking video this week. Local YouTuber Ian Cank took his drone up over the Warrington Transporter Bridge, one of the town's most fascinating bits of forgotten industrial history.

🌟 Brilliant news for the town. 👔 Two teachers at Birchwood C of E Primary, headteacher Stephen Latham and Kieran Wordsworth, took on the gruelling Three Peaks Challenge back in July, climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Yr Wyddfa in just over 23 hours. They raised more than £1,400 for a brand new sensory room at the school. (Warrington Guardian)

🏍 Phil Warburton, 78, a lifelong motorbike enthusiast from Warrington, was treated to a surprise day out at the British Superbike races at Oulton Park by staff at Belong care village on Loushers Lane. The former carpenter met reigning British Superbike champion Kyle Ryde along with fellow riders Glenn Irwin and Blaze Baker, and even came away with a jacket the riders gifted him (Warrington Guardian)
