Plus a new Italian restaurant is coming to town

Good morning, Warrington. Mike here. This is The Warrington Scoop.

You’ve got enough on your plate without chasing down what’s happening in town. So I’ve rounded up the latest bits worth knowing about.

In today’s Scoop:

  • The first episode of the Warrington Scoop podcast goes live 🎤

  • Over 20 things to do this weekend 🗓️

  • Croft Carnival 100-year celebration 🥳

  • Walton Arms to become a Pesto 🇮🇹

Grab your favourite brew, and let's start. ☕️

Episode 1 of the Warrington Scoop Podcast is Live 🎤

We are excited to bring you the first episode of the Warrington Scoop Podcast.

It’s hosted by my good friend Charles Commins, who is a podcast producer, and me.

In our first episode, we chat with the organisers of Warrington Arts Festival about what’s coming up and how it’s all taking shape.

We also took to the streets at Warrington Pride to speak with people at the event, and then wrapped up back in the studio with a chat about everything else going on in town.

It’s a nice 25-minute episode, and you can listen now on your favourite platform:

Dinosaurs in Time Square 🦖

To mark the release of Jurassic World: Rebirth, Time Square will be taken over by life-sized dinosaurs and themed fun on Sunday, the 6th of July.

Cineworld will be showing the film all day across its three screens, so you can catch a screening and come face-to-face with the beasts.

From The Papers 📰

Here are some positive stories from around the town over the past few days.

🐍 Snake spotted in Great Sankey
A Great Sankey resident got a shock after spotting a 2-metre-long snake moving through their garden. The RSPCA believes it was a harmless corn snake. Likely an escaped pet. It disappeared before it could be caught, but snake owners are being reminded to check their enclosures, especially in hot weather.

🛝 Huge new slide park coming to Cockhedge
A £2 million indoor slide park called Slidie Sliderson is coming to Cockhedge Shopping Centre. The Rocafella Leisure Group, known for launching the UK’s largest ninja park, has signed a deal to open the 25,000 sq ft venue as part of the area’s wider redevelopment. It’s expected to bring in 150,000 extra visitors each year and create 35 to 40 new jobs.

🚂 The Cheshire Steam Fair returns
One of the county’s biggest steam events is back in Daresbury on July 12–13. There will be classic cars, steam engines, stunt shows, vintage funfair rides, and even model train rides (including the Flying Scotsman!). The event's been running for over 30 years and looks set to be a big one again. Tickets are available online.

Croft Carnival - 100 Year Celebration 🛝

It looks like it’s going to be a big one with hundreds of people have already shown interest online, and there’s a packed line-up planned. Expect parades, Tanzanian acrobats, an ABBA tribute band, and egg throwing.

The fun kicks off with floats at midday, and the main arena starts at 1:15pm. It’s all happening on the Carnival Field, worth popping by if you're around.

Walton Arms to Become a Pesto 🇮🇹

The Walton Arms but is to become a Pesto. This has had a mixed reaction online, so I am keen to get your thoughts.

If you are not sure what Pesto is, it’s an Italian tapas chain. There is one in Widnes inside an old pub.

What do you think about the Walton Arms becoming a Pesto?
