Good morning, Warrington. Mike here. This is The Warrington Scoop. The newsletter talking about the good stuff around town.
I'm sat here in mild disbelief that it's October already. Wasn't it the school holidays about five minutes ago? At this rate I'll blink and we'll be arguing about when it's acceptable to put the Christmas lights up (not until the 1st of December, please).
Grab your favourite brew, and let's start. ☕
Warrington are in the Super League Final this weekend (expect Town to be packed)
Warrington Wolves face Wakefield Trinity in the Betfred Super League Grand Final at Old Trafford tomorrow, Saturday 3rd October, kick-off 6pm. Win it, and the Wolves end a long wait for a Super League title. Call it what you want, but this really does feel like it could be our year (I know, I know, but I really think it will be).
If you're heading to Old Trafford yourself, have an absolutely brilliant day, and if you're staying round here, it's still a huge day for Warrington. The town centre's going to be packed with people, and pubs will be rammed, and that's all good news for the bars, cafes and shops who'll be seeing the benefit of it. Where will you be watching the game? We did see that Friars Court are doing German 1L Steins and massive Bavarian Pretzels! Reply and let me know, and come on you Wire.

One of our postboxes in Sankey Street has had a Halloween makeover. It's been topped with a hand-crocheted spider web, complete with ghosts, pumpkins, a skeleton, a black cat and even a little ghost dangling off the side.
It's the work of Crafting Smile, a group from the Hong Kong community here, who left a note in English and Chinese saying they made it simply to bring a bit of warmth and joy to people's day. Every one of those little characters has been made by hand, so you can only imagine the hours that have gone into it and people love it. View some more images of it here.

We have been posting quite a bit of news (positive of course), but we made a few memes for you. Here is one about the roads in Warrington, but remember, this is just for fun! The roads are bad everywhere!

🍸 Did you know we had a couple of rooftop bars across town? The Roof Top (above the Grand), posted this great little video showing off the summers nights they had up there this year.
🚶♂ LiveWire's Lifestyles team are running 20 health walks across Warrington this October, led by qualified walk leaders and open to all abilities.
🐾 Fingers crossed for Pets Pantry in Stockton Heath. After the much-loved pet shop closed its doors recently, Primrose Hill Nurseries are now working on a rescue package to give it a future. Nothing's signed yet, but talks are moving in the right direction and an update is expected soon.
🚮 The Penketh and Cuerdley Litter Network are heading out this Sunday (4th October) from 9am, meeting outside the Crown and Cushion on Farnworth Road. Picks, gloves, bags and hoops are all provided, so just turn up, and bring your waterproofs as there might be some rain
Plan ahead: what's on in Warrington this October?
Here is a bunch of fun things to put in your calendar for October. Our normally weekly guides will carry on as usual, but this is 10 things that might interest you.
Friday 9th - Saturday 10th October: Rotary Warrington Oktoberfest
Parr Hall turns into a proper beer hall for two nights running, and I love that this is back. Pink Pumps are on Friday, The Fleegles take over Saturday, and every pint you have is going towards Rotary Warrington's charity work. We'll definitely be popping down for one, or maybe six.
Sunday 11th October: Warrington Makers Market
Independent makers and traders from right across the North West take over Time Square for the day, with street food and live music thrown in too. This is one I always tell people to wrap up warm for and make a proper morning of, there's always something you didn't know you needed (such as cake!!).
Tuesday 13th October: Michael Palin: In The Philippines
Properly big one, this. Michael Palin brings his latest travel adventure to Parr Hall in person, with footage from the trip followed by him talking through it live on stage. If you grew up on his travel shows like we did, this is one to get a ticket for rather than kick yourself about later.
Thursday 15th October: The Rocket Man: A Celebration Of Sir Elton John
Another big night at Parr Hall, this time a full live tribute to Elton John's biggest hits. Expect the whole room singing along to Rocket Man and Your Song by the end of it, whether they meant to or not.
Wednesday 21st October: Betsy the Wandering Chapter at The Culcheth Arms

This one's just lovely. Betsy, a travelling mobile bookshop, is pulling into the Culcheth Arms car park from 4pm to 8pm, packed full of books to browse. The pub's been running its own book club for over a year, so this feels like exactly the right fit for them. Get your ticket early though.
Saturday 24th October: The Illegal Eagles: Hotel California Tour
A third big one at Parr Hall this month. The Illegal Eagles have been doing this a long time and do it properly, note for note. If you're an Eagles fan, or just enjoy a room full of people pretending they can hit those harmonies, this is your night.
24th October onwards: Land of Lights opens at Gulliver's World
Brand new for this year, a mile-long illuminated trail with early bird tickets already on sale, so keep an eye on landoflights.co.uk for when it's announced.
Friday 2nd - Saturday 31st October: Cineworld's Horror Film Season
A whole month of horror classics on the big screen for just £5.99 a ticket when booked online. Expect anniversary screenings of cult favourites like Train to Busan and The Craft, right through to Halloween itself.
Saturday 31st October: Shocktoberfest at Walton Hall and Gardens
The Old Riding School turns into a proper Bavarian beer hall for the night, except this time it's got a Halloween twist. Steins of beer, a live oompah band, a DJ, and full fancy dress encouraged, so dig out the lederhosen and the Halloween costume and wear both if you're feeling brave. There's an afternoon session and an evening one, so take your pick depending on how big a night you're after.

Right, brains switched on? yeah? Today's word has a loose Warrington connection, as always, so have a proper think before you fire off your first guess. Reply and let me know how many you needed.
