The Digest 📰

Here are some stories that are not crime or politics from around the town over the past few days that you might want to know about.

🔥 Warrington and Stockton Heath fire stations will be refurbished as part of a £61.7 million budget agreed by Cheshire Fire Authority. The upgrades include modern facilities, new equipment, and improved firefighter welfare areas. Warrington Fire Station will be remodelled by 2027, with wider investment planned across Cheshire’s fire service. (Warrington Guardian)

🍽️ An American influencer tried the viral ‘Wetherspoons game’ at The Friar Penketh in Warrington and was flooded with surprise food and drinks. After sharing his table number online, strangers sent everything from peas to alcohol through the app. He said the response was overwhelming and joked he’d never try it again. (Warrington Guardian)

🪧 Campaigners fighting to save Woolston Neighbourhood Hub will hold a second protest outside Warrington Town Hall on February 18 at 4:30pm. Nearly 3,000 people have signed a petition so far. Residents want clear evidence, full surveys, and transparency before any final decision is made on the building’s future. (Warrington Worldwide)

🏉 Warrington Wolves kicked off the Super League season with a 24–14 win over St Helens at a sold-out Halliwell Jones Stadium. 19-year-old Cai Taylor-Wray starred, scoring a stunning solo try and helping Wire secure an impressive opening night victory in front of home fans.

Warrington’s Best Value Funfair returns 🎢

Warrington Shout Outs 📣

😀 Did you head into town yesterday for the Lunar New Year celebrations organised by the Warrington Hong Kongers? (all organised by volunteers, and not council funded). I have honestly never seen Time Square so busy. It was a great atmosphere with loads going on. I wasn’t able to stay for long, but I met Venus, who was part of the organisation team, who showed me around, which was great. Check out the video of it I posted on the socials here. A friend of mine turned around and went home because the car park was so busy.

📉 Warrington Council plans to close the creche at Orford Jubilee Neighbourhood Hub to save £33,000 a year. Parents say it’s vital for childcare and daily life, and are campaigning to keep it open. You can read more and sign the petition here.

🏃 The General Elliot has started a run club with the first run being on the 22nd of February for an 8am run.

🎭️ Bridgewater Players are marking their 200th production with The Show Must Go On! at Thelwall Parish Hall from Thursday 19 to Saturday 21 February at 7.45pm. This new farce follows a drama society whose anniversary play descends into chaos. Tickets are £9 online or £10 on the door: bwplayers.co.uk/tickets

  • Separate lounge and dining room with French doors

🍺 In Friday’s email, we discussed Owen’s bar, which opened on Friday. We popped in and took a video for you.

❓️ People said that some of the Where Are We videos were a bit too easy, so this one was a bit harder. Can you guess where this was taken?

Thanks 👍️

Thanks for reading The Warrington Scoop today.

If you found this useful, share it with someone who misses nights out at Mr. Smith’s.

Catch you on Friday.
