The Whitby Rebels by Stockton Heath Methodist Dramatic Society
Sponsored by Stockton Heath Methodist Dramatic Society
Stockton Heath Methodist Dramatic Society has won great acclaim and many awards over the years. Its June production is 'The Whitby Rebels', a comedy celebrating a true story of British eccentricity and determination.
In 1991, a trawler set sail from Whitby, crewed by misfits, pensioners and a vicar. Their mission? To follow in the footsteps of a legendary explorer and erect a plaque on a volcanic island in the Arctic. With an untrained crew, clapped-out boat and crazy plan, what could possibly go wrong?
'A right little cracker…savagely funny.' (The Guardian)
Performances:
7.30pm on Tuesday 2nd, Thursday 4th and Friday 5th June
3.30pm on Saturday 6th June
Tickets £9, if booked in advance, £10 on the door. Buy here: www.ticketsource.co.uk/shmds

Here are some positive stories from around the town over the past few days.
🚌 Warrington's Own Buses is updating timetables on a number of routes from June 1st to improve punctuality and reliability, including services 1/2, 3, 4, 5, 11/12, 16/16A, 17/17A/17C, 19, 22/22A, 28/28A, and 62/62A (Warrington Worldwide)
⛪ St Mary's Catholic Church on Smith Street is set to have its original altar restored ahead of the building's 150th anniversary in 2027. The Grade II-listed church, built in 1877, had its stone high altar removed in the 70s or 80s and replaced with a temporary wooden one. Plans have now been submitted to bring back marble columns and a new mensa to match the original design. (Warrington Guardian)
🍎 Rhian Hill, the new head teacher at Bradshaw Primary School in Grappenhall, has spoken about her passion for supporting the most vulnerable pupils and the inclusive culture she's building at the school. Having worked in education for over 20 years, including as a SENDCO, she says every child at the small school is known, valued and encouraged to reach their potential. (Warrington Guardian)
Warrington Litter Pickers attend Buckingham Palace

Following Warrington Litter Volunteers winning the King's Award for Voluntary Service, litter pickers Bill Cooke and Tony Dixon attended Buckingham Palace for the Royal Garden Party.
Bill Cooke described, "We represented the indomitable Warrington litter pickers at the Royal Garden Party. We had no idea there was such a large garden behind Buckingham Palace, it even has a lake."
Tony added: "There were 8,000 guests, military bands, tea and cakes, uniforms (swords not permitted), and lovely frocks with large hats. We can confirm there was absolutely no litter in the palace gardens." King Charles, Queen Camilla, the Princess Royal (Anne) and the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh (Edward and Sophie) were present and processed through different parts of the crowd. "We were fortunate to see King Charles at very close quarters. Overall it was an unforgettable experience."
Bill added, "And back in Warrington, we've picked over 5,000 bags of litter this year!"
You can read more about it here on their Facebook page.

🎸 Check out this amazing scene from Neighbourhood Weekender in Victoria Park. It’s great to see so many people out in Warrington enjoying themselves in the sun.
🦇 I came across this and thought it sounded like a brilliant one to share. The Friends of Culcheth Linear Park are running Bat Walks on 5th June, led by ecologist Rob Smith. It's a late evening walk spotting the bats that call the park home, with a suggested donation of £5. Numbers are strictly limited so book your place via the QR code on their poster.
🎉 Can you help? Stockton Heath Festival is looking for volunteers for the weekend of 4th and 5th July at the QEII Diamond Jubilee Field. Whether you can spare a couple of hours or the whole weekend, they'd love to hear from you. Perfect if you're retired, working toward your Duke of Edinburgh, or just looking to give something back to the community.

⚽ Great to see progress at Cantilever Park as Warrington Town FC get new stands in place at the Cantilever bridge end, bringing the total seating capacity up to 612 and overall capacity to just over 3,100. The stands include four dedicated disability viewing spaces and will be ready for the first pre-season friendly against Chester on Saturday 18th July.
Thanks 👍
