SPONSORED BY DREAM DOORS

Good morning, Warrington. Mike here. This is The Warrington Scoop.

Do you even watch the news anymore? I don’t know about you, but when The Chase finishes at 6pm, I switch over as I can’t face the doom and gloom of the news. That’s part of the reason this newsletter was started, as I just wanted to focus on the good stuff going on around town.

Grab your favourite brew, and let's start.

If your kitchen is looking a bit tired but a full refit feels like too much, Dream Doors Warrington specialise in replacement kitchen doors, worktops and appliances, giving your kitchen a brand new look without the brand new kitchen price tag. It costs about 50% less than a fully fitted kitchen and can be installed in just 2 to 3 days.

Right now, they are also offering £600 of free storage, exclusively through their Warrington showroom, until 30th June 2026. They are a family run business based in Grappenhall with a 9.8 out of 10 rating on Checkatrade. Find out more and get a free estimate on Facebook, Instagram, or their website.

Luke Littler vs Mo Farah 🏃 🎯

I had to share this because it’s been widely discussed on social media this week.

Who would win in a half-marathon between Warrington's Luke Littler and Mo Farah, but after every mile they must complete a 501 on a darts board?

A 501 is a standard leg of darts where you start on 501 and have to end on a double. The double is the hard part. Could Luke Littler walk each mile and get the 501 easily, even though Mo would be there way before him? It’s certainly got people talking.

Who do you think would win? My money is on Luke Littler. If you want to read more about it you can here, or watch a video debating it here on Instagram.

Here are some positive stories from around the town over the past few days.

🏃 Warrington's Leah Brooker completed the London Marathon on Sunday in 5 hours 30 minutes, raising over £4,000 for Maggie's Centres in honour of her dad who was diagnosed with a rare cancer. An incredible effort in what was a really warm day for running. (Warrington Guardian)

⚽ Warrington Rylands are through to the NPL Premier League final after a brilliant comeback win over FC United of Manchester, winning 3-2 after being 2-1 down. George Waring scored the winner with a header to send Rylands through. They face Hednesford Town in the final on Bank Holiday Monday. (Warrington Worldwide)

🌸 🌸 It's National Gardening Week and Warrington readers have been sharing their beautiful blossom photos with the Warrington Guardian (Warrington Guardian)

🪴 This week we went up to the Sky Garden. Did you know that this existed? Most people I speak to have no idea it’s there…..but basically it’s a garden on top of Golden Square Car Park. They grow fruit up there, and different kinds of plants, and it’s a little hidden place that I feel needs to be shouted about more. Last year, I went to their harvest festival, where people were selling homemade jam, and you could pick your own veg.

Following on from the Sky Garden, did you know that you can see the planes taking off from Manchester Airport on the roof of Golden Square?

📸 Do you know where we are in this video? It’s one of the reader's favourite places.

Do you know a young person who is ready to take their next step into work?

Warrington & Vale Royal College is working with GXO City Plumbing and DFN Project Search to deliver an exciting non-EHCP Supported Internship pilot, creating a new route into employment for young people with SEND.

As part of a national pilot, this one-year programme offers hands on work experience in a real professional setting. Interns work five days a week, complete three rotating roles across areas like Hospitality, Business, Engineering and Warehousing, and receive daily support from a Job Coach and mentor.

With just 8-10 places available, this is a unique opportunity.

Find out more at the upcoming Interest Day on Monday 18th May 2-3pm or 6-7pm, at GXO City Plumbing Warrington.

There’s quite a lot to shout about this week.

🦩 Partridge Lakes in Culcheth have launched their pedalos on the lake, and they have been very popular.

🍩 Two sisters have just opened Cosmic Delight in Golden Square. Doughnuts, pick 'n' mix and sweet treats galore.

🌍 Culcheth and Glazebury Community Day is back on Bank Holiday Monday, 4th May, from 11:30am to 6pm, and this year has a brilliant World Cup theme. Wear your favourite national team shirt and enjoy over 60 stalls, funfair rides, live music, an ABBA tribute act, donkey rides, magic shows, and loads more.

🌿 Have you ever been inside the big glasshouses at Walton Gardens? The volunteers at Friends of Walton Estate were busy this week maintaining the pond filtration system in the glasshouses and checking the water quality to keep the fish healthy.

🍺 Winwick Beer Festival is on Friday 19th and Saturday 20th June and the organisers are looking for local businesses to come on board as sponsors. Packages start from just £65 and include free tickets and tokens.

🎉 A lovely milestone at Hancock and Wood on Bridge Street this week as store manager Lynne has just celebrated 40 years with the company.

🥐 Our food pick of the week. Vandal has just dropped a new breakfast that sounds incredible. The Vandal Croissant Bun is a sausage patty, fried egg, American cheese and brown sauce mayo all stuffed inside a golden flaky croissant.

🐺 If you are a Wolves fan, this would make a brilliant gift. The club has just released 150 Years of the Wire, a book celebrating 150 years of the greatest players to ever pull on the primrose and blue
