Warrington unveils vision for transformed Bank Quay

Warrington Borough Council has unveiled its masterplan for a major transformation of the Bank Quay area. The proposals would deliver up to 4,500 new homes and 2 million square feet of commercial space across 300 acres of brownfield land surrounding Bank Quay station, with the potential to bring around 10,000 jobs to the town. The whole scheme is tied to the planned £45 billion Liverpool-Manchester railway line, which would make Warrington a central hub between the two cities. The council says it would also take pressure off green belt land by focusing high-density development on former industrial sites.
It's a bold vision that could genuinely reshape Warrington for generations to come. We'd love to know what you think, is this good news for the town?
The Bank Quay masterplan — what's your verdict?

Here are some positive stories from around the town over the past few days.
😃 Two Warrington organisations have been recognised as some of the best places to work in the whole of the UK. Cogent Skills, based at Centre Park, and the National Skills Academy for Nuclear (NSAN) over at The Base, both picked up awards in the Sunday Times Best Places to Work 2026 list, winning their category in the Non-Profits and Charities sector. (Warrington Guardian)
🏫 Evelyn Street Primary Academy and Nursery in Sankey Bridges has been named a Reception Network Lead School, one of only five in the whole of the North West and 45 across England. The school has been personally praised by the Education Secretary for its work on early years education, and will now support other schools across the region. (Warrington Guardian)
🧺 A free community launderette has opened at Westy Community Centre, offering families free washing and drying, plus energy efficiency and benefits advice. It's aimed at households struggling with fuel poverty, damp and mould. (Warrington Worldwide)

The highlight from this week's socials was a carving of an owl out of a tree… but can you guess where it is? This was something that a reader sent to us, as we didn’t know about it ourselves.
This meme was particularly popular this week, which shows Karl Pilkington walking down Bridge Street.
Warrington Sky Garden in full bloom after £20k Lottery boost

Warrington's Sky Garden, the award-winning rooftop garden on top of Golden Square's car park, has received a £20,000 grant from the National Lottery Community Fund. We've featured the Sky Garden a few times recently in our videos and it's a brilliant little space, so it's great to see them get this recognition.
Run by Arts charity Culture Warrington, the garden has welcomed nearly 700 schoolchildren since it launched in 2022 and picked up Gold at the International Green Apple Environment Awards in 2025. The funding will go towards new plants, more wildlife habitats and fresh produce for the community, as well as a free green wellbeing course for adults and two family events this summer. Tree Fest in July will feature theatre performances, forest puppets and wood craft demos, while Animal Antics in August gives kids the chance to meet farm animals and get crafty. The Sky Garden is open during Golden Square's normal opening hours.
