Good morning, Warrington. Mike here. This is The Warrington Scoop.
You know what, it's been a cracking week in Warrington. There's a lot to be positive about in this town and this edition is proof of that.
Grab your favourite brew (actually, it's maybe too hot for a brew), and let's start. ☕

If you're planning a wedding, Statham Lodge in Lymm is one of those venues that just ticks every box. A beautiful country house hotel set in stunning grounds, it's the kind of place that makes your day feel really special. Download their wedding brochure and find out more at stathamlodge.com

There have been quite a few posts on the socials this week, with one video attracting the most attention about the rusty bridges that we all like to moan about. We do try and keep things positive on the Scoop, but they do look like they need a bit of TLC.
🍰 We were invited down to try Monia’s Cakes’ new cake… well, it's not a new cake, but it’s a customer’s favourite that’s come back onto the menu, and it’s one we would highly recommend.
🚘 I know you love Bridge Foot roundabout (is it a roundabout, or a junction?), so we created this lovely meme that really shows off how we can feel about it at times 🤣
🍖 Here’s a bit of an update about Hickory's Smoke House, which is replacing the Griffin Pub in Bold Heath (just outside of Warrington), and has quite a few people excited. The one in Chester is really nice (in my opinion, anyway), but some people are sad to see the Griffin Pub close.

Here are some positive stories from around the town over the past few days.
👣 A Warrington family are taking matters into their own hands after this year's Walking Day was cancelled. Five sisters and their brother from the Mckeown family are planning their own Walk of Witness on Friday 3rd July, setting off from Bank Park at 10am and following the traditional route through the town centre, finishing at The Hop Pole. 🎾 Plans have been submitted to convert a former warehouse in Stretton into an indoor padel tennis centre, featuring four double courts, a competition court and two single courts, plus a social space with a circular bar. Padel is one of the fastest growing sports in the UK right now, so this would be a great addition for Warrington. (Warrington Worldwide)
🏊 Good news for Woolston Hub campaigners. The building has officially been designated an asset of community value, meaning residents will have the right to bid for it if it is ever listed for sale. The hub, which includes two swimming pools, a gym, GP surgery and library, has been closed since September last year. (Warrington Guardian)
Have you ever been to Woolston Eyes Nature Reserve?
One thing we want to do more of in the newsletter is feature a place you might not know about. Today’s feature is on Woolston Eyes Nature Reserve because David Bowman’s wonderful pictures keep appearing on my Facebook feed every day. For more context, Woolston Eyes is a designated S.S.S.I as it is an important site for wetland birds and breeding and wintering wildfowl.
Here are some recent pictures from Woolston Eye’s Facebook page to show what to expect if you decide to head down there.

It was great to see some updates on Facebook about Culcheth being cleaned up by its local residents. There really is lot of weeds growing everywhere right now, so it’s good to see residents looking after their area.

🍺 The sun is out, and 4T's Tap Room is open this weekend, so get yourself down there! They've got 10 kegs on tap, including apple and dark-fruit cider from Ryan's Cider Company, plus a guest beer from Pentrich Brewing this weekend. Pizza Lorenzo's are also serving food. Open Friday and Saturday from 2pm to 9pm.
⚽ Warrington Town FC have announced their pre-season schedule for 2026/27, with four matches confirmed against National League North opposition. Keep an eye on their Facebook page for more info.
🎨 Warrington Art Group's latest exhibition opens today at Grappenhall Heys Walled Garden and runs until Friday 3rd July, featuring original work by group members.
Lymm Historic Transport Day

🚂 One of the biggest days in the Lymm Festival calendar is this Saturday, 28th June. Historic Transport Day takes over the village with a procession starting at 10.30am, featuring steam engines, vintage cars, boats, bicycles, and carriages making their way through Lymm. There are also stalls, food, drink, and live music across venues throughout the village. Tickets are £7 for adults, £4 for children, and £18 for a family, with all profits going to charity
Armed Forces Day

This Saturday, 27th June, Crosfields ARLFC is hosting a brilliant free Armed Forces Day event at Crosfields on Hood Lane North in Great Sankey, and it's going to be a big one.
There's a full day of rugby league action starting at 10.30am, with four matches featuring the Royal Marines, Army Rugby League, The Mercian Regiment and the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment, plus a Masters Festival involving Crosfields, UK Armed Forces and GB Police.

Last weeks answer made a few of you laugh….. but it was a word that had to make you think a bit outside the box wasn’t it?
No clues for today’s one.
Thanks 👍

If you found this useful, please share it with someone who went abroad this week but could have just stayed in Costa del Wazza.
