The Digest 📰
Here are some stories from around the town over the past few days…… that are not crime or politics.
🎾 The Village Hotel wants to swap its old tennis courts for five new padel courts, complete with canopy, glass walls and floodlights.
🎭️ The Pyramid Arts Centre is getting a £4.9m revamp, and young creatives are being asked to help relaunch it. Culture Warrington is looking for 12 people aged 16–21 to join their Young Producers scheme. Applications open Monday 22nd September and close Monday 6th October.
😢 Bodycare is closing all its remaining shops this week, including the branch in Golden Square. The chain couldn’t find a buyer, so doors will shut by Saturday. That means 444 jobs will go across the UK. Bodycare first opened in 1970 selling beauty products and fragrances, but the Warrington store will soon be gone for good.
🎭️ Oliver Ormson is coming home. The Birchwood-born actor has gone from playing Aladdin in his school panto to starring as Hans in Frozen the Musical on the West End, with other big roles in The Addams Family and The Book of Mormon. He’ll be sharing his story at Birchwood Youth and Community Centre on Friday 24th October, 7.30–9pm. Tickets are free.

5 Events Not To Miss In October 🗓️
We are writing a mini Oktoberfest guide and a pumpkin guide for a future newsletter. So if you are wondering why those don’t make the list, don’t worry, they are on their way next week 😃
🎢 Grandparents’ Weekend at Gulliver’s runs 4th–5th October.
Two grandparents get in free when they come with someone paying full price, so it’s a nice excuse to bring Nan and Grandad along. There are rides and attractions for all ages, so everyone can spend a day together. You’ll need to book online to get the offer.
🛹 Skateboard GB National Championships – Street – Sat 11 & Sun 12 Oct, Ramp 1 Skatepark.
Britain’s best street skaters compete at Ramp 1 in Warrington. Spectators get free entry on Saturday.
🍽️ Warrington Restaurant Week – Mon 6 – Sun 12 Oct, town centre.
A new initiative led by the Business Improvement District invites cafés, pubs and restaurants to offer special menus and fixed‑price deals across the week.
🤣 Comedy Store at the Parr Hall - 25th October
Laugh-out-loud entertainment is back in town as Comedy Store returns to Parr Hall. Featuring some of the very best names in live stand-up, this time-honoured comedy series has been a firm favourite with Warrington fans year after year.

Sponsored by: Whitemoss Artisan Market This Saturday, the 27th
Whitemoss Artisan Market is on this Saturday 27th September at Whitemoss Garden Centre in Widnes. Doors open at 10am and the market runs through until 4pm.
You’ll find stalls packed with food, crafts, and handmade goods. It’s a chance to pick up something unique, enjoy a bite to eat, and support local makers all in one place.
The market has a real community feel and makes for a good weekend outing. Head over, have a wander, and see what catches your eye.

Warrington Food & Drink News 🍽️
🏃 Pennie’s Bakehouse in Latchford is starting their own running club called Pacers Run Club, which starts on 28th September at 8:30am. All running abilities are welcome. Join in for the run, stay for the coffee or eat some cake guilt free! Enjoy 10% off your brew.
🍺 CAMRA’s Good Beer Guide 2025 is out, and 12 Warrington pubs have made the cut. That’s up from 10 last year. The list includes The Albion, Hop Emporium, The Tavern, The Lower Angel and plenty more. Have a look and see if your favourite made it in.
🍓 Grappenhall Heys Walled Garden has its Autumn Fair on Saturday 27th September, 11am–3pm. One highlight is the great jambola. It’s like a tombola, but with jars of homemade jam and the odd bottle of fruit gin. Stalls, local makers, and food from Primrose takeaway will all be there too.
☀️ The Sky Garden’s free Harvest Festival is on Saturday 27th September, 10am–1pm. Pick your own carrots, spring onions, radishes and more, then learn about the garden itself. You’ll find it on top of the Golden Square car park on level 3 (it’s a really cool little area).
A new Thai food truck has opened on Penketh and Sankey Conservative Club. It is open Tuesday to Saturday, 11am to 8pm. Check out their menu here.
