Good morning, Warrington. This is The Warrington Scoop.

In today's edition:

  • Penketh Beer Festival 🍻

  • £1 popcorn at the Odeon 🍿

  • Bridgewater Canal Updates 🚢

  • Food waste collections coming in 2026 ♻️

  • What’s on This Week 🗓️

  • Plus, From The Papers, The Sport and More…..

Grab your favourite brew, and let's start. ☕️

P.S. We have had many new people sign up this week (hello and welcome 👋 ), with over 100 of you joining us in one day alone (a record for us). I appreciate your support.

Penketh Beer Festival - Saturday 1st Feb 🍻

If you’re looking for a great night out (and want to end dry January the next day), then the Penketh Beer Festival has it all – real ales, gins, lager, cider, wine, and Prosecco. There’s something for everyone, with live music by Dogbone Uk and fantastic food from Jules Glorious Food.

The best part (apart from drinking beer 😆 ) is that all profits go to Latham Hall Scouts and Guides, so you’re having a good time for a great cause.

When is it? Saturday 1st Feb.

💸 Tickets are £8.

Don’t miss out on an evening filled with great drinks, music, and community spirit.

🎥 National Popcorn Day at the Odeon – This Sunday 🍿

What’s better than a trip to the cinema? How about £1 popcorn to celebrate National Popcorn Day this Sunday at the Odeon?

And let’s be honest, the Odeon in Warrington isn’t just about the movies – those recliner chairs at the Warrington Odeon are what makes me actually go to the cinema. Sit back, put your feet up, and enjoy your film in total comfort – all while munching on some poppin’ good popcorn for just a quid.

Bridgewater Canal Breach Updates - A Great Resource 🚢 📺️

By now, most people will have heard about the breach on the Bridgewater Canal near Lymm, which caused significant water loss and even some local flooding. The canal owners, Peel L&P, have already put dams in place to start stabilising the area and refill the water, but it’s going to take some time to repair fully.

If you want to keep up with what’s happening, we highly recommend checking out the Taylors Aboard YouTube channel. They’re currently stuck on the empty section of the canal but are doing daily updates with some fantastic drone footage of the situation. It’s a great way to see what’s going on from a local boater’s perspective.

Check out their channel here, where they are making daily updates.

What Do You Think About Warrington’s New Food Waste Collections? ♻️

From April 2026, Warrington residents will need to use food waste caddies as part of a weekly collection service. This will bring the total number of bins to three (or four if you use a green bin).

The council says the move is aimed at reducing methane emissions from landfills and helping the environment, but it’s a big change that might take some getting used to.

We want to know what you think about it by filling in the poll below.

How do you feel about the introduction of food waste caddies in Warrington?
