🎉 Bank Holiday Bits & Local Picks

What to do, where to go, and a few things you might’ve missed.

Good morning, Warrington. Mike here. This is The Warrington Scoop. We keep it light, friendly, and easy to read in 5 minutes.

Today’s edition is a bit different (and maybe a bit longer).

With Monday being the bank holiday, I thought I would make this a longer edition than usual, with some stuff that’s on next week (and because I want a day off 🤣 ).

In today's edition:

  • Are You Up For the Step Challenge? 🪜💪

  • A Local Castle You Can Drink In? 🏰🍺

  • Plenty of Live Music 🎸🎤

Grab your favourite brew, and let's start. ☕️

Are You Up For The Step Challenge? 🪜

I know it’s half term, but if you end up eating a bit too much over the bank holiday weekend, then why not burn it off by taking part in a step challenge and raising money for charity?

How does it work? Well, according to their Facebook post, you climb every step in the stadium, which might sound easy. However, I have a friend who has done this before, and I remember him walking into the pub the next day and barely being able to walk, so I know it’s a great workout 😄

Let me know if you take part, as I am tempted to give it a go myself.

More info available here on their Facebook page.

A Local Castle You Can Drink In? 🍺

Yep, something else castle-related for you.

I had a few replies to Monday’s email about the castle history section, which people liked, but did you know there’s a local castle (well, castle ruins) that you can enjoy a pint and food in?

I’ve been there quite a few times, and it’s recently reopened. I don’t think there are many places like this.

The castle I am talking about is Halton Castle (I know, I know, it’s not quite Warrington, but it’s close enough). This is the picture from their Facebook page, which does a great job of showing you what you can expect (you can see the new bridge in the background).

You can see for miles around, and it’s just something a bit different. If you end up going over the bank holiday weekend, let me know what you think.

Here’s a link to their Facebook page if you want to find out more.

What’s On This Weekend and Next Week🗓️

There is an extra guide for you this week, as we take a break on Monday. There was a lot on, so we have only picked out some of the best things happening around town, or it would have ended up not being a “scoop”, and more of a “full-on 10,000 words” kinda email.

From The Papers 📰

This week has been the worst week in all the time I've been writing the Scoop to find positive stories. The local papers are just full of crime, doom, and gloom, robberies, arrests, and council debt.

This is the best I could find…….. 🤷
