Good morning, Warrington. Mike here. This is The Warrington Scoop.

I was out on the job this week with someone who moved up to Warrington from down south a little while back. He was pointing out things about the town that I just walk past every day without a second thought. Sometimes it takes someone with fresh eyes to remind you that Wazza isn’t that bad at all.

Grab your favourite brew, and let's start.

P.S. There is a lot going on this week in the event guide… much of it centered on Stockton Heath Festival. I think there is something for everyone!

I've been chatting with Craig, the owner of DecKing Warrington, and if you're thinking about upgrading your outdoor space this summer, these are the people to call. They can help you withbespoke decking, fencing, pergolas, gates and garden structures.

They're a Warrington business with some brilliant projects across Warrington and the surrounding area.

Check out some of their latest jobs on YouTube or find them on Facebook, Instagram or head to decking.group to get an instant quote or book a free site survey.

Here are some positive stories from around the town over the past few days.

🏋️ Warrington's Josh Summersgill represented Great Britain for the first time at the European Masters Weightlifting Championships in Belgium, finishing a brilliant sixth place. Josh went 3 for 3 in the Snatch and narrowly missed breaking his own British record on his final lift. (Warrington Worldwide)

👑 Huge congratulations to Warrington's Isabelle Thompson, who has been crowned Miss Teen Pageant Girl UK 2026/27 at just 15 years old. As well as her GCSE studies, Issy is the founder of Her Voice Matters, a platform raising awareness of violence against women and girls. (Warrington Guardian)

Walking Day Reborn

What are your thoughts on the new Warrington Walking Day? I know most people are annoyed about it after the council announced it could no longer fund the traditional event. The newly formed Walking Day Reborn Group, comprising church leaders, community members, and council officers, has stepped up to keep the tradition alive.

Walking Day Reborn: Standing Together in Faith takes place on Saturday, 4th July from 10am to 4pm, transforming Bank Park and the Town Hall area into a celebration of faith and community. There will be a banner parade honouring the iconic Walking Day banners, live brass bands, local choirs, family entertainment from Silcox Fun Fair, food stalls and traditional afternoon teas.

There will also be a Historic Memories Desk on the day where residents can share their Walking Day stories and memories, with Warrington Museum on hand to collect and preserve photographs and recollections for future generations.

👻 When we were out on our bikes, we stopped off at the old Sankey Valley Maze, which is overgrown, but the gate was open, so we had a wander around. Would you go in here at night?

🤔 Let’s test your Warrington knowledge. Do you know where we are in this video? Not just…. “in a tunnel” as one person commented 🤣

🐶 A new dog friendly cafe has opened at Cheshire Dogs Home on Knutsford Road in Thelwall. The Sit and Stay Cafe is open Wednesday to Sunday from 10am to 4pm, serves good coffee and all proceeds go towards looking after the dogs in their care.

🏉 Golborne Parkside Pirates are looking for new players to join the U9s rugby league team. All abilities welcome and no experience expected. If you know anybody in school year 4 that would like to be a part of a brilliant club then please get in touch.
