It was another busy weekend in town. On Friday evening, a few of us went into the market and could not get a seat (inside or out). On Saturday, we headed down to Golden Square, and it was packed with people attending Warrington Comic Con, with loads of families enjoying themselves. We also got out on our bikes down the Trans Pennine Trail, which we are lucky to have running through Warrington. Did you get out anywhere nice?

Have you heard of VPX? (It stands for Victoria Park Experience). We interviewed Tony Spruce, the local PCSO, about it on the first-ever Scoop podcast just over a year ago. It’s a day of free activities and entertainment for families throughout August. It’s a really well attended event, and it’s all FREE! This year it’s split between Bank Park and Victoria Park. We are lucky to have such great events like this across the town, so please take advantage of these if you can. We will send out some reminders nearer the time as well.

Here are some positive stories from around the town over the past few days.

👣 Good news for the future of Warrington Walking Day. The council has secured £76,800 from the National Lottery Heritage Fund to support a year-long project collecting and recording memories, stories and future ambitions for the tradition. The funding will also support volunteer recruitment and work with young people to help ensure Walking Day has a sustainable future. (Warrington Worldwide)

🏆 Huge congratulations to Brook Acre Community Primary School in Padgate, which has been named School of the Year at the Warrington Guardian Education Awards 2026. Described by nominators as feeling like a family, the school was praised for knowing every child as an individual and creating a genuine sense of belonging for all pupils. (Warrington Guardian)

🏆 Dan Fahimi, a motor vehicle teacher at Warrington and Vale Royal College, has been named Further Education Teacher of the Year at the Warrington Guardian Education Awards 2026. Described as someone who transforms lives rather than just teaches, Dan was praised for going above and beyond for every student regardless of background or ability. (Warrington Guardian)

✂️ Tell Tales are running a Summer Craft Club every Thursday at 11.30am throughout the holidays, starting this week with Norman the Slug with the Silly Shell. It's £10 per child and includes all craft supplies, a juice box and biscuits. We did a video about Tell Tales earlier in the year and the response was brilliant, it's a really special little place.

🚂 Whitfield Light Railway at The Hayloft is now open every day until September from 10am to 4pm, with a coffee shop, Cheshire Farm ice cream, a sunflower maze, activity barn, sports field and play area all on site too. Ian, who runs it is a top bloke, we also made a video for him last year with lots of you saying how much you enjoy the train rides.

🍫 We saw this on one of the screens in Warrington Market at the weekendand thought it was a bit different. Master chocolatier Oli The Choc, who has appeared on This Morning and The Cake and Bake Show, is hosting an Edible Slime Workshop at the market on Thursday 6th August at 10am.
